There's a guy named Michael Chow who founded a bunch of very upscale Asian restaurants here in the states, primarily NYC and California, and he was married to Tina Chow, a half-Japanese and half-American designer. She was the daughter of a Japanese war bride, a term used for those women in Japan who married soldiers during the Occupation, and an American serviceman, and she described in an article how hard it was growing up in a small insular Ohio town.
