Angel hugged her back. "Yay you! Do you have time for a secret mission? John, you can get in on this too if you want."

"Oooh," John says, "I haven't been on a clandestine mission in...forever."

Having been on a secret mission just last week, Molly chuckled. "If it's for you, Angel? I'll make the time. What's the mission?"

"I need you to go to the store and pick up some stuff for me," Angel said. He went to his notebook and started writing a list. "Don't tell anybody, and get back by tonight."

Molly looked over at John with a grin. "Okay, Angel. No problem." Then she made a gesture of zipping her lips.

"Mum's the word," John says.

"Perfect." Angel tore the paper out of his notebook and handed it to Molly. It said:

Tin foil
Three balls of kitchen twine
Porkpie hat
Tube socks
Markers in pastel colors
Glitter
Hawaiian shirt
Purple nail polish
A copy of Catcher in the Rye

"Think you can do it?" Angel asked.

Molly blinked at some of the items on the list before showing it to John. "Yeah, I think so. No problem."

"Okay," John says and so doesn't ask. "Yeah, we can do it. Molly's got the brains and the strength. I'm the charm."

"Good. Lemme give you some money," Angel said, reaching for his wallet. "And Molly, remember: if you get caught you have to force John to eat the list."

Molly giggled. "Sure thing. Even if I have to hold him down to do it." She gave John a grin.

"Then we should add Tums to the list after I get sick for eating paper and need some relief," John says mock seriously.

Molly giggled and pretended to write Tums on the list.

"So I can trust you?" Angel asked, mock-somberly. "Back here before sunset with the goods?"

Molly stood up straight and saluted. "You can count on us."

"Absolutely," John says and salutes because he really can't help it. "Do I get a hug when we succeed?"
