002 ~*~ Sprucing things up a little

Flandre was right: the houses all look the same and it's rather dull. She's used to living somewhere that stands out from the rest of the world, so it was time to make this place a little more like home!

[Naturally, Holland notices a cute girl carrying gardening tools immediately. Though it might have had more to do with the shovel poking into his ribs, he doesn't hesitate to talk to her. After all, he was shopping for the same reason, carrying a garden hose over his shoulder and a small shopping basket full of trowels and other hand tools.]

They have baskets.

[Just a slow shake of his head here.]

[ A shame. ] It's a very beautiful land, where all sorts of people live. It doesn't have any cities quite like this, but kilometers of forests and countryside and rivers and lakes and such.

[Sounded a little bit like Canada.]

No cities?

[Sounded a little bit like heaven, actually.]

A few towns and villages, but most people liked to just set aside their own space and live a comfortable distance away. Mistress Remilia's manor was far from everyone else, near a lake. [ A wistful sigh. ] I wish I had a photo or something of it, because it's really too pretty for words. And it was huge! [ Emphatic hand gesture. ] --but a lot of property to watch out for.

[It really did sound nice. He liked his big cities, but sometimes they just felt too crowded. There was a reason why renting a caravan and getting away from it all was so popular.]

So you probably don't like this place much, then.

You mean Mayfield? Hm. I don't like that I'm away from my home, you're right. But as far as cities go... It's not as crowded as some I've lived in or visited before. It's just been a reaaaally long time that it's taking some getting used to. [ Meiling rubs the back of her head, below her cap. ] Aheh, like all these people being around...

That makes sense.

[He'd taken something else off the shelf while she was talking, just as a reason to keep standing there when she wasn't talking anymore. There was no way he would ever find a use for a box of 2-inch wingnuts. Maybe he'd flick them one by one at England's or Spain's windows.

. . .or maybe he'd just leave them on the shelf. As much as he wanted to throw them at Spain or England. France too, and maybe Prussia. . .he put them back on the shelf. And then she rubbed the back of her head, which was pretty cute too, so he stepped a little closer. ]

I don't know a lot of people who really enjoy gardening.

[ She just watches him with a curious stare for a moment. ] Are you looking for something specific? Maybe I can help!

[ Then she nods. ] It was my job back home, at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Keeping the garden staff in order, and the guards on alert.... so pretty much everything between the walls of the mansion and the borders of the property was my domain. [ Squaring her shoulders proudly at that. ]

why is he so awkward. vertulpen April 16 2011, 21:51:39 UTC
No, no. Changed my mind.

[So much for offering help, at least if she was some kind of professional.]

You should let me watch you.

[. . .]

Garden. [Adding that didn't really help you sound less creepy, Holland.]

Since you know so much.

[ Fortunately, Meiling isn't used to anything remotely resembling flirtation, and so nothing strikes her odd about his suggestion at all. ] Sure! I won't be doing anything with the actual flowers until I finish construction, but you're welcome to drop by while I work if you really want to.

It would be nice.

And if you need help, too.

That would be great! There's something to be said about extra hands making fast work or something like that, right? [ Meiling is quite enthusiastic about this. ] The house is at 340 Brady Lane. You won't be able to miss it, as it'll be a bit of a mess for the next few days.

[Ohhh. Such a weakness for girls who are cute and nice. She does get a smile back, though it's small. He nods in agreement before deciding he should say something else.]

Mmhmm . . . see you.

[He gives a slight wave, too.]
