LOG 005 --- [Text]

I apologize for those who I've made some sort of contact with, I've been very busy with trekking through the forests and visiting the lakes. They're both very interesting and I would like to point out, that I am now home.

trekking, home, bones

There has been much that has happened in that time, and much of it was quite distressing.

Was there anything fascinating that you found during your expedition?

[Robert remembers Temperance... though he might not know her name and he's glad that she's alright.

After all, that's somebody unharmed by what happened.]

Ah, no, there was not.

But if you do not mind, would you give me the cliffnotes as to what's happened?

[Robert's writing gets noticeably shakier, here. It's a good thing that Temperance can't hear him sobbing.]

Well, the most important village-wide event was a major draft that occurred. It was announced on the first of June, and took over a hundred villagers to a "training forest" that was an occupation of the Third Party. The fighting lasted from the third to the sixth, and villagers were returned at exactly 12:00 a.m. on the seventh.

Many of my friends - including my partner - were taken during the draft, and one close friend of mine, Mr. Sprensonne, was [- and here there is a long, sad pause -] killed.

These wars are disgusting and barbaric. But I suppose I can expect nothing less from these pathetic excuses for scientists.

I'm sorry to hear your friend was killed, but...

Would it be too crass to ask you to explain the nature of these... drafts?

[It's a bit of a painful question right now, but...]

I am not particularly well-informed in the matter, but I can try my best to elucidate.

These drafts are essentially forced conscriptions levied against the Lucetian villagers by the Malnosso. Whenever they have need of sending us to battle in their stead, they force quantities of villagers to specific teleporters, dispatching drones for those who will not cooperate.

As far as I have read, from there people are sent to a place where they would generally be able to recuperate. That was not the case in this latest draft.

[Robert pauses, before adding:] Anything else you are curious about?

I see, this is very strange and as far as I remember, the last draft that my world/country (The United States) was involved in ended in 1973, so this is quite interesting to me.

... I see, they didn't recuperate? Where were they shifted too? Back here? And is there a way to get a list of those who were drafted?

It is certainly strange, and downright illogical. But then again, my own world is free of war, so I can hardly judge what is "normal" for this sort of thing.

[Robert sighs a little to himself before writing the rest from whatever he remembers seeing.]

In this instance, the "commandant" - the person running this operation - informed the draftees that they would not be taken anywhere to rest. So sleep had to be obtained on the dangerous battlefield - which happened to be in a rainforest, full of traps, apparently-aggressive fauna and the so-called "Third Party", those that the Malnosso see fit to wage war with.

In other words, it was a completely barbaric arrangement.

Also, a list was provided by the "commandant" on the announcement.

[And here, Robert leaves a link to the Commandant's original broadcast, where the list of those drafted exists in a text form.]

Hopefully that will be helpful.

Yes, it is, thank you.

I'm sorry if I'm being insensitive to your own situation, I am just curious.

It is all right. Curiosity is perfectly acceptable, especially for such a strange and repugnant situation.

I must inform you that any villager can be drafted at any time. As much as I myself utterly refuse to partake of violence, it is still a good idea to be aware of this fact.

I see.

I am glad that I know how to defend myself as such, and that Booth is just as able to defend himself.

Thank you for imploring upon my curiosities, none-the-less, it must be a horrible act to know your friend died and I am simply asking mundane questions. My condolences.

Mundane or not, they are important questions.

And my friend's death would [- a long, sad, lonely pause here -] have occurred regardless. It is simply what happened.

I will just have to wait for his return. There is that much here, at least.
