This is reflected in his unending desire to rule the world and his constant need to prove his genius, as well as the fact that so many of his robot creations resemble him physically. In fact, his latest army at the time of his abduction into Luceti consists almost entirely of robots sharing his rotund figure, as well as his trademark pointed nose and wide grin. These are all features that Dr. Eggman considers the height of handsomeness, despite others thinking his appearance to be ridiculous. Due to his delusions of perfection, he takes great offence at anyone insulting his looks or intelligence and will quickly respond with anger to anyone who dares criticise him.
Eggman's aforementioned desire to rule the world is what really drives him. Most of his time is spent planning and executing new plots to take over the world and he seems to genuinely enjoy putting his invasion plans to work. One of the main motivations for him to take over the world is the scientist's need to be universally loved and respected by all. He particuarly considers himself worthy of ruling the planet because of his genius alone.
His world dominations plans are more or less foiled by Sonic the Hedgehog, someone whom he originally hated but now sees as more of a rival than an enemy. Eggman also has some admiration for the mechanical skills of Sonic's friend Tails, considering him surprisingly skilled for an eight-or-so year old fox. Tails' skills are almost on par with Eggman's and Eggman respects him for this, although at the same time maintains a rivalry with him.
Eggman designs a variety of different robots and his designs range from the genuinely menacing to the plain absurd and he loves building things to a theme, often building a base and guard robots with matching themes. For example, one of Eggman's bases was themed on a haunted castle, complete with robots modelled after witches. Surprisingly Athletic - When the moment calls for it, Eggman can be surprisingly athletic for a man who's morbidly obese. On several occasions he's outrun Sonic for long enough to make it to his next evil contraption. Notably in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when he flees from a Death Egg control room to reach his giant robot's cockpit. His running speed in the Chao Garden of Sonic Adventure 2 wasn't bad either (though it's not really solid canon).
Tenacity - Eggman never gives up on his plans until they are well and truly crushed. Even when his plans fail. he won't give up, going away into hiding and returning in a month or two with a new evil scheme and every confidence in its success. The man's basically been doing the same thing for twenty years without giving up.

In Sonic Heroes, he even overlooked the possibility that Metal Sonic would betray him, allowing the robot to imprison him and take control of the entire Egg Fleet.
Failure to learn from mistakes - Eggman lacks the ability to acknowledge his mistakes and learn from them. He'll leave as many flaws in his next plan as he did the previous, as proven by the fact that Sonic beats him again and again.

Dr. Eggman awoke suddenly to a sharp, searing pain in his back, causing him to sit up quickly.
“Argh!”
The scientist clutched his head, trying to get rid of the groggy, dizzy feeling rushing through it right now. His back felt a little better, but it still ached like heck. What had happened? He leaned back on both of his hands and tried to think. What was the last thing he remembered?
Shadow the Hedgehog… Chaos Control… The Eclipse Cannon firing on the Black Comet…?
Knuckles. That jellybrained buffoon had been chasing him in one of his usual fits of rage. Eggman couldn’t remember exactly what had happened, but obviously the echidna had caught up to him and given him a beating. No doubt he’d caught the genius off guard at some point, knocked him out and… and…
“I’m naked!” Eggman exclaimed, leaping to his feet suddenly. His back didn’t like that. He groaned in pain and reached behind himself to massage his poor spine… Wait. What was this? There was something attached to his back! “What are these?” A light tug caused more pain to course through the doctor’s body. “Argh! W-wings? This makes no sense!” He looked around. “Why would that knucklehead drag me out here-”
And steal my clothes? No, it couldn’t have been Knuckles, or even Sonic or any of his friends. Thankfully, whoever it was had left Eggman with a pair of loose fitting cotton pants. They were a little too short, but at least they made him feel a little less exposed. He didn’t want to touch those wings again, but he was fairly sure they were surgically attached to him to be causing this much pain.
“Grrrrr!” The scientist clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. “Whoever did this to me is going to pay!”
