ϟ 4th Plan -> [audio]

Jul 19, 2011 21:13

[It has been precisely eight days since he has seen or heard from the blond princess, longer from the pleasant woman he spoke with at the party.]

Odette.

Bryn.

I require your exact location and current status, both of you. Immediately.

[He seems to think better of his demands, and adds a caustic - ]

Please.

[Onto the end of the transmission.]

[Bryn's never had anyone seek her out. It's with some wariness that she replies.]

I'm...I'm in the orchard. The one behind the main building? Is something wrong?

[...You know what, Bryn.

YOU KNOW WHAT.

He's going to march his blue ass down there right now. Because WHAT DO.

He stomps right up to her.]

There you are. You do realize, Miss Bryn, that it's been approximately seventeen days, twelve hours five minutes and fifteen seconds since you have last made your presence known on this antiquated network of books? I hardly think that's responsible of you considering your last rather panicked vocalization not to mention there are others that seem to have vanished without a trace in the tunnels below ground.

Prior to that, it was nine days, seven hours and forty six seconds after that I last saw you at the party now you tell me, Miss Bryn, who is disappearing now?

[...Why is he so pissy he doesn't even know.]

It would be in your best interests not to disappear for such lengths of time again!

[If Bryn hadn't met Kevas first, if she herself wasn't a little bit strange, she might have freaked out more. Really, she might have completely flipped her lid at seeing a tall, blue alien type person marching up to her and giving her a very stern lecture about her lack of activity.

Her eyes bulge and her jaw drops slightly. She quickly closes her mouth again as soon as she gets the gist of his message and actually looks somewhat ashamed.

He is quite correct.]

I...ah.

[What to say? What to say? Bryn clasps her hands in front of her stomach and her fingers knit together, showing her nervousness.]

I'm sorry. I just...haven't had much to say and I didn't think anyone would...really notice.

[That red in her cheeks is the flush of humiliation.]

You're right however. It would be best if I was much more diligent in...making my records.

[She agreed with him.

He'd expected some manner of backtalk - much like that sassy, fiery tempered little...temptress reporter Miss Ritchi but she'd actually agreed with him and he's momentarily left speechless, until he regains his footing.

Puffing up, he punctures the air with his forefinger, gesticulating wildly.]

Well! Yes, of course I'm right! I'm always right! I'm the genius! And you - Miss Bryn - will do better in the future to keep your records so that people know you're alive and not dead in a lake or a tunnel somewhere!

[Sugar you're preaching to the choir about no one noticing.]

[He might be a genius but Bryn wasn't stupid. She was perfectly capable of reasoning and thinking logically. He didn't say anything that wasn't correct and Bryn wasn't going to argue when he had a very important point.

Of course, what Megamind probably doesn't realize is that his noticing and insistence that she keep her records, specifically so that others might know that she's alright, makes her think that perhaps he was concerned about her.]

I promise I will. I'm so sorry to worry you like that.

[She gives him a hopeful look, slightly pleading, that he forgive her for her oversight.]

Yes, well. There you have it.

[Straightening himself, he flicked the tips of his cape behind him and preened ever so slightly as he adjusted the high points of his collar.

He's beginning to realize that this is the first time she has ever actually seen him as he's supposed to be - and it seems like he is not good at making good impression on the resident Keep blonds.]

Me, worry? Hah! That's...that's just preposterous!

[He glances off to the side, unable to meet her eyes. He's really not the best liar in the world - he tends to fidget, look away, and in general fail miserably at it.]

[He fails as miserably as she does, and so for once, Bryn doesn't take someone's words at face value. Still, she doesn't press the matter either. Not verbally, at least. Still, there is a flash of some good-hearted amusement in her eyes as she looks up at him.]

I see. Then perhaps I was mistaken.

[She pauses a beat, and then tentatively continues.]

When last I saw you, you looked quite different. Is it an ability of yours? To change your appearance?

Completely mistaken! Villains don’t worry about pretty little blonds they barely know! [He folds his arms over his chest and gives a loud, indignant harrumph, before holding his hands out and giving his head a vigorous shake.]

Good heavens, no.

[…Actually that is not technically true..]

Well. Not inherently, anyway. [He does have a disguise generator.] That which you saw at the party was quite involuntary. Seems I was not the only one that had that little problem, however.

[She wonders if perhaps he's protesting a little too vigorously and tries very hard to hide the start of a smile on her face.]

Yes, of course. Very mistaken indeed.

[Bryn tilts her head at Megamind as he explains, or somewhat answers her question, but that of course leads to more questions.]

How on earth did they manage to change you against your will...and so many others?

…Absolutely one hundred percent mistaken. [You do realize you’re mistaken Bryn, right? Just so we’re clear.]

I’ve been looking into that - the science should, theoretically, be impossible - changing ones form that physically, anyhow. Visually, not so much, it’s simply a matter of bending light and utilizing energy fields to contain high levels of extremely dense photons to suit your specific needs, but this…

[He shook his head, frowning.]

I’m not sure. This was something else.

[A great deal of that goes over her head. Still, she gets the first part enough to smile a bit.]

I think a great deal more is possible here than there were on our worlds. Magic, perhaps?

[She says the words tentatively, already sure that he'll likely shoot the idea down quickly, still if he doesn't, Bryn is curious what his take might be.]

...Possibly.

[Magic, as he understands it now, is science that his reality does not yet understand. The only reason he lends any sort of probability to this explanation is from his encounter with that...thing. Chase.]

I do find myself rather hoping that doesn't happen again. [It had been too unnerving. He'd much rather use his watch.]

[Surprise, surprise, he doesn't dismiss her comment out of hand. Bryn tilts her head to the side in thought.]

Was it so bad? Sometimes it's...I think it'd be nice to look a little different.

[Not that she'd know what it's like to look different. Nope. Not one bit.]

[He would have immediately were they back home and he not witnessed it himself already.]

It--

[He shifts, looking ridiculously uncomfortable with the direction this conversation is taking. He's never really spoken about any kind of personal issues before, except with Minion, and certainly not with someone he barely knows.]

I'm certain it would be nice for those...not as devilishly handsome as me. I, however, have a holographic generator that allows me the use of a disguise if need be.

[Congratulations, Bryn - no one no one outside of himself and Minion knows that.]

[She admires his confidence. Bryn didn't really think she was an attractive sort, and she wonders what it would be like to think that way about herself.]

You do? With you?

[You've piqued her interest, Megamind. She actually steps closer, leaning in a bit to look him over, as if she'd recognize it.]

May I see it? How it works? That is, if it's not too much trouble of course...

[It's a lot of fake confidence, Bryn. Don't let it fool you.]

Yes. It's alway--

[She's close. A little too close for his initial comfort, but she's actually interested in what he has to say, instead of Roxanne's stinging barbs and complete lack of enthusiasm for his intellect and genius.]

No trouble at all. Here.

[He holds up his wrist to show her the watch that he wore, tapping the face.]

This is the device. Remember what I said about bending light and utilizing energy fields to contain high levels of extremely dense photons? That's what this does.
