Think about it. People have been here for two years. In theory it shouldn't be that hard to recreate a society on level with home here, it's not like it's complicated. But people leave all the time. Even when they're doing useful things, they get sent away. Do you ever see any construction workers or electricians or plumbers pulled here? I haven't seen one city planner or social worker. Some people even come from places as advanced as dirt mounds. And I know there's a toddler around here, what's she supposed to do?

If the point was to make it better, things would be completely different. Those Uglies probably cause things like the blizzard in February on purpose just to tear down everything people build up.

The point is you're supposed to suffer.

Oh, I think you misunderstood me! I didn't mean recreating a society successfully, or anything like that...although I'd see why it would be hard with people disappearing all the time. I meant that we have to try the best for ourselves, so we can be the best person we can be...considering the circumstances. Just like at home...we don't have to suffer if we don't want to.

Well, of course those events are upsetting, but even back home...once someone's dead, there's nothing you can do - nothing brings them back. All you can do is mourn, then move on.
