And Hogwarts' Number One Not-Really-Sure-What-the-Hell-He-Is-Anymore Wizard, Sasuke Uchiha, watched from the shadow of a window alcove, and wondered what Naruto was doing.
It was entirely possible that Naruto knew exactly where he was going, but was simply so enthralled with being back at Hogwarts that he was running back and forth, stopping, staring, scratching his head, reorienting himself, and running off only to find some new spot to begin the process over again in order to full appreciate every inch of the ancient structure before it eroded under the force of his personality. Or it was also possible he was lost.
Sasuke went with what six years of knowing Naruto told him was the most likely.
"Lost already, bonehead?" he asked, barely even raising his voice as the staircase Naruto was on swung him over to Sasuke's landing.
Naruto's head jerked up at the familiar and depressing voice, a goofy smile stretching onto his face as he looked up as the staircase moved.
"SASUUUUUUUUUKE!" He cried happily, the movement of the stairs causing his voice to carry and then damper before carrying again.
He looked at his best friend, a joy filling him that he hadn't experienced in quite a while. It was funny, how you didn't realize you were homesick until you were back on the front lawn. Or castle-sick. However it worked.
Naruto moved forward, about to give him a bone-breaking hug when he remembered himself. He wasn't the same brat that had left a few months ago. He had grown. Matured. Become stronger.
He pressed his smile down.
Naruto punched Sasuke in the arm, "Don't call me a bonehead, dick."
Naruto's punches were more forceful now. Sasuke's expression was a smile in the shape of a smirk and a roll of the eyes as he said, "Don't call me a dick, bonehead." It was comforting, easy banter that didn't require thinking, just reacting. Just being.
And it was that kind of homesickness that had the muscle knots in Sasuke's shoulders relaxing for the first time in weeks; something you didn't know you were missing until you had it again.
"Oh, y'know," Naruto said with an easy smile as he stretched his arms up before folding them behind his head, "Doin' trainin' and stuff, tryin' ta get my grades up by doin' a special program," he frowned, "You didn't get my note? I swore I left you a note...ANYWAY it was pretty good. I bet I can take you in a duel next time 'round."
Naruto's smile didn't dim, "How 'bout you? Still mopin'?"
It was a strange language that the two had between them, where insults were needed to express the concerns.

Something like family.
"So where've you been?" he asked.
