I would like to see the budget of the US government directly linked to taxes. Like, when there’s a budget cut, I want my 5 cents back. When there’s a budget increase, I want a tax hike. I know it wouldn’t necessarily be practical in the real world, but we have lots of ( Read more... )

Except that, with the deficit as monumental as it is and the imposition of unfunded mandates (eg. No Child Left Behind, where the State is required to produce results without being given tax money to pay for it), the budget has very little to do with what we're being taxed.

I wish I could find the attribution, but I once heard the quote that "Democracy only lasts until the citizens realize they can vote themselves the treasury." I think you've found an excellent way to accelerate the process...
