Perhaps you should consider wearing some sort of identification along the lines of "I am a resident of the Tree, kindly refrain from shooting". If the people are stupid enough to mistake a hawk for a duck, it may not help, but it's worth a try.

I meant more of a red scarf or something highly visible and you can get the message of not shooting a bird with that identifiable object over the journals.
