Well, with the recent turmoil in the stock market, we may see a return to the New York of old. The NYT (I believe) pointed out that all the money pumped into Wall Street changed the face of New York, with all these investment people moving in and bringing their chain stores and overpriced real estate with them, generally making life hell for the rest of us. Now, those companies are set to just become more regular banks, which takes the money out, and could set us up for a financial drop. Good news: rents will be cheaper. Bad news: Crime will go up.
