The spell made her bite through the soft skin of her inner lip as she writhed under the curse. "My Lord, it was..." She couldn't finish as the curse intensified.

When it finally lessened, she threw herself at his feet. "My Lord, I am yours to command. I am ever faithful and devoted! Allow me to go out on my own and I will bring them back for you."

The pain spread so quickly that he could do nothing but collapse under it. He'd never suffered it in this intensity before. Then again, he had never failed so intensely either.

In those moments, his shields collapsed and when the pain finally diminished, he panted, unable to bring them back up right away. Fingers digging into palms, he concentrated on his breathing and then shielded what he could. He could only pray that it was enough to keep anyone from getting killed.

There was nothing he could say that would appease and he was smart enough to stay silent, kneeling instead.

Snape knew the price of failure and bit into his lip as the curse raged through him, pain making stars explode behind his eyelids.

It was only experience that let him keep his shields up long enough and he gasped as the curse ended, thankful that the floor was already underneath his knees.

He gritted his teeth as he heard Bellatrix though. Of course she would want such a thing. Damn it all.

The curse ripped through him and all there was... was pain. Rabastan let out a very undignified whimper, sinking to his knees. The pain was too much, Rabastan falling to his side and curling up as ever muscle in his body seized up. Everything when white, then red then black for a moment as he came back to himself.

"My Lord," Rabastan said, somehow managing to pull himself to his knees. "I beseech you. I will not fail. They will be brought back and you shall be rid of them once and for all."

"You were unable to retrieve them in the first place, why would I believe that you would be able to do this now? You are all fools, idiots and fools." Voldemort stood and with his foot against shoulder, pushed each of them to the ground. "A small remnant of the Order and my most loyal were completely unable to retrieve one old woman. You could've delivered them to me in triumph and, instead, you come to me with empty hands and empty promises."

He paced past each of them as he spoke, "Three years, we've had three years and we should've been able to crush their tiny rebellion and yet? They are victorious. It makes me wonder just how trustworthy you are, how much I can rely on you to be true to the cause. Three years and the Order is not crushed. Each of you will do that for me. Each of you will do your parts or you will no longer be allowed to serve."

The implication was clear but to cement the possibilities, Voldemort cast Crucio again. "Failure will not be tolerated. Get out of my sight before I regret my leniency."
