Padding barefoot from the loo, Ron eased the door open just enough to slip as quietly as possible into the still, pre-dawn room. The hinges were notoriously loud and squeaky and he took great care when shutting the door so as not to disturb a sleeping Hermione. Despite the late night, he'd woken much earlier than usual and decided to take advantage of a blessedly silent house and plenty of hot water - two things he absolutely relished.
He stared briefly at the slender foot hanging over the edge of the mattress and smiled; not much else dared to leave the comfortable nest of blankets (even fast asleep she'd somehow managed to wriggle her way over to the warm spot on his side of the bed).
After giving his wet head a final cursory rub with a faded, flowered bath towel, Ron opened first one drawer and then another, searching the tall chest of drawers for a hair elastic with no luck. With a soft huff he finally gave up and began to finger comb the long, gingery strands, working out most of the tangles as he peered into the mirror.
