They'd had a brilliant day, walking around looking at ruins and exploring the town. A few memories came back and Seamus told Dean the stories of when he'd accidentally pushed Declan down the well or the time that all three of the youngest Finnigan children had lain in wait for Ailish to walk past while on a date.

One thing they pointedly did not discuss was the idea of going back to London. As much as Seamus worried over Dean's continued survival if he were to go back, Seamus worried about his family as well. He'd finally met his nieces and nephews. One, three-year-old Frank, had manifested magic. The Death Eaters would come for him eventually, either to corrupt him or kill him. They'd purged so many Mudbloods that Seamus didn't think that his family stood much of a chance.

If he were there, he could protect them. If he were in London, he could find out when the attack would happen and give them advance warning.

If he was in Ireland… if he was in London… if he was in Ireland… if he was in London…

The litany continued even when he was trying to sleep in that narrow bed with Dean's warmth heating the blankets and his breath soothing Seamus to sleep. When Dean slept, Seamus touched his arm - whether slung around Seamus or under Seamus's own arm slung around Dean - and wondered what Dean's arm would've looked like with the Dark Mark on it.

His own Marking Ceremony was a memory he would've preferred to lose. He'd stood in a large chamber with other hopefuls as they held out their arms, pledged allegiance to the Dark Lord and vowed to serve for life in whatever manner the Dark Lord deemed fit. Seamus could still feel the taint - though at the time it had felt like a righteous bond - coiling under his skin and waiting to erupt.

What Seamus hadn't told anyone, not even Dean, was that his arm had started to burn while they were standing in the ruins of an old church today and it hadn't stopped since.

There was no more time to weigh the decision of whether to go or to stay. When Dean and he had gotten back to the Finnigan house, Seamus left him there and wandered to the small nursery that his mam owned. He found her in the back, elbow deep in dirt. Nodding to one of the employees, he wandered to the very back of the planting shed.

She stopped what she was doing, sat on a bench and started to weep before he even had a chance to say a word. He sat next to her, arms shifting uncomfortably as he wasn't quite sure what to do or say. Finally, he burrowed his face into her neck and held on, tight as he could, while he cried too.

While they clung to one another, he finally whispered, "I have to, mam."

She responded with, "I know, Shame, I know."

They - Dean and Liam - would be going back to London.
