Susan reached for her wand, which she seemed to be using more and more often because it was just so much easier to summon something or open the door with a flick than it was to get out of her chair and disturb the baby. She waved it at the door which swung open to reveal Arthur standing there.

A smile blossomed across her face and Gabriel made a little snuffling sound before settling back down against her. "Arthur! Come in..."

He was the first visitor they'd had. Well he was the first visitor that they'd had who had actually chanced a knock on the door. Luna had left things on the other side of the threshold. Some knitted gifts and a scroll with extensive instructions on how to prevent a Nargle infestation.

Arthur smiled broadly, and placed the gifts gently onto a table at the side of the room. Something inside of him (Molly had always called it his 'Weasley instinct') churned with happiness at seeing the newborn boy and he bent down to greet the baby.

"Hello there young sir," he said with a grin. "Welcome to the world."

Tilting his head up at Susan, Arthur cast a discerning eye to see how she was faring. Although he had already made up his mind before he asked her, courtesy made him say - "And how's the blooming mother?"

Susan craned her neck just a little to look over at what he'd placed on the table and then smiled up at Arthur. "Tired. Tired and nervous and enthralled and so many other things I couldn't even possibly name."

Nuzzling her nose against the top of Gabriel's head, Susan took a small whiff of the baby's delightful scent.

"Above all, completely in love." She shifted in her seat and then carefully maneuvered the little boy in her arms. Gabriel squinched up his face and pushed his fists out in righteous indignation of being pulled away from her body heat. Susan tried not to worry. Instead she lifted her eyebrows inquiringly.

"Would you like to hold him?"

"I would be honoured," Arthur said with all sincerity, and reached forward to cradle Gabriel in his arms. He'd forgotten how soft a baby's skin was, or how the little gurgles made him rumble a laugh deep in his chest. It was like holding Bill for the first time - or Ginny, when he finally got his baby girl - and it was so strange to think that one day this little boy would be grown up like his own children.

"He's beautiful, Susan," Arthur said. "And Penelope told me it all went very smoothly. How are you doing now?"

"Still a little overwhelmed," said Susan as she combed her fingers through her hair and got up from the rocking chair. Her legs were a titch wobbly from having been sitting for so long... and did she have a nap in that chair?

Wandering over to the table, Susan picked up the flowers and smelled them before summoning a vase to put them in. "I feel like... like I'm learning something new about him every single day." She turned and came toward Arthur, reaching out a fingertip to trace over Gabriel's brow.

"He looks so much like Terry; Marjorie showed me pictures of when he was wee. Except he has the Bones' ears."
