Some people seem not to have noticed that the civil war was fought over "union" and whether citizens were citizens of the federal government as well as the states, as well as the slavery question. So they are fantasizing.I'd prefer it not to take a quarter of the population to settle the question

Hardly worth commenting on - we have people in Italy who claim to be nostalgic for the Bourbon kings of Naples (whose hash was settled at roughly the same time as the Confederacy's, and by similar means). Anyone can claim anything. But if these morons imagine that a smaller statehood would disengage them from "foreign wars" and unpopular government, they are not only silly, they are certifiable.
