[Open] SOMEONE WAS BORED I THINK AND IT WASN'T ME

May 16, 2011 23:36

This had been hailed in the media as one of the biggest tournaments in the King of Games' career. Unfortunately you'd been unable to attend as a duelist, and even unable to accompany him as his significant other. You had been busy but he'd understood. A shame, he'd said, as he had been working on a really good strategy for the last few months. You ( Read more... )

"Pharaoh," The Doctor called, waving his arm high above his head to get Atem's attention. While he didn't understand dueling himself per se, he understood the younger man's need to do it. And he always looked amazing and poised when he did.

With a roll and a squirm that only a timelord could make, Eight was beside the ancient king and had taken his hand before anyone around them knew what was happening, and fallen into stride.

"I must say you've gotten quite good at that."

"I'm sure it is," Or it would be when they landed. The Doctor started the landing sequence like he'd done a million times before before turning and opening the inner doors.

"....Care to find out for yourself?"

He straightened up his stance, trying not to leak out as much anxiousness as he'd been feeling. After all, he was with the Doctor and there wouldn't really be anything the two of them couldn't handle. If the Doctor wasn't worried, he wouldn't be either.

So with a nod he answered, "Ah." A light grin following afterwards. Without any hesitation he moved beyond the doors.

The priest stood there inside the temple, looking up at the blue monolith that had appeared just as quick as it had disappeared mere moments before. He stepped forward as the doors opened, his hands wringing behind his back.

These were the longest seconds of his life.

The air here was weird, certainly not warm enough to be his Egypt. But a temple this most certainly was. Though it didn't feel extremely familiar to him, not one he'd ever spent time in even if it looked like it could have been.

He stepped out of the doors, looking around still, unsure of what was going on. It was all too quick that his eyes settled on his Priest. His stance loosened, slack a little in shock. Even if the Doctor had hinted very openly about the fact that they were traveling to see the man he just couldn't piece it together yet.

"Seth." The name fell from his lips quietly.

Seth was on his knee, though he'd never really been one for formalities. It hid the fact that his legs were Shaking. There was colour in his Pharaoh's face, and a strength that came froma confidence that certainly wasn't as strong back home as it was in that moment.

Then there were the clothes, form fitting and perfect for a man of his stature. But as all his training dictated, silence was needed. Wanted. And all he could muster outside preventing his pouncing on the other for the hug he'd ached for since Atem had left.

Atem had completely forgotten any sense of being a ruler upon seeing his Priest's face. All he remembered was the man, not really the title, neither of them. Him going to his knee drew a frown from him. He hadn't come here to assert authority over anyone, he'd only just left the dueling field doing that after all.

A slow and cautious step was taken forward, as if the world would crumble out from underneath him if he wasn't careful. "Rise- please..." A request, not an order. He didn't want to order the other around right now.

The moment he did stand, Seth had his arms wrapped around his Pharaoh.

"When he said he could bring you back, I did not want to believe....he is truly a servant of Ra," the priest whispered, shaking with emotion as he looked back up to the doors and to the man in the green velvet jacket that stood on the threshold.

With a silent thanks to the timelord he held onto Atem, only to step back when he remembered his position.

"It is good to see you well."

It took him a split second too long to react he felt. But he was still scared, unsure that this could possibly be real. The last time he'd bid his Priest farewell he was leaving for good and handing the kingdom to him after a too-long battle. His arms wrapped around the other tightly, unwilling to let go.

Though he had to chuckle just slightly, eyes closed as he clutched to the other- weak as it made him look. "The Doctor? I guess you could say that." Atem had a hard enough time contemplating all that man and his machine was, for Seth to be able to might have been out of the question.

He felt the loss too strongly once the other let go. "And you." He smiled as best as he could. "Have you been faring well?" After everything. The war, the losses, becoming Pharaoh...

"Egypt has fallen," Seth murmured solemnly, his chin dropping to his chest in shame. There was no real reason to hide the fact, and the reason that the Doctor had brought Atem. Egypt's heart had left with Atem, and here on this strange planet he needed help to rebuild.

"The Romans..." Seth began, though at the same time he was sure it was more his own personal failings than that of the conquering europeans. He refused all opportunites to unite with others through marriage, or through treaty. He wanted to keep Egypt strong; but how could a leader do that when he himself felt weak?

His heart felt like it had dropped right into his stomach as a cold feeling gripped him all over. He'd known. How could he not, having traveled into the future (or waited his penance of three thousand years, rather). Yes. Eventually Egypt would fall and not be that power that it was.

But during Seth's rule? Too cruel. How. How had...

"I..." What could he say? There was only one thing that felt appropriate. "I'm sorry." It was all his fault. How could it not be?

"Wait, wait..." The Doctor began, coming down the few steps to stand beside the two of them.

"It's not all a loss," It couldn't be, he saw the rise of Egypt. And knew when it was meant to fall. It was all part of history, his own personal and Earth's recorded...

"Do you want a chance to fix it?"

The other choice was to simply start again, and bring those still fighting for Egypt here to live and grow in peace. But it was up to them to make a decision.

His eyes drifted to the Doctor as the other came closer and began speaking. An unsure look came to life on his face. "Fix it?" He'd already gone back once and fixed about as much as he was personally allowed to. That was to save the earth. This just seemed like it was easing a bruised spot.

As much as he wanted to, for both Seth and his heart's well being, it didn't feel right. "How do you mean?" But he'd at least give the other a chance to explain what was going on in that mind of his.

"There are two choices...You can start a war to help with the morale of your people, or...." The Doctor looked around, knowing that in all honesty he'd never let Atem or the priest choose war.

"We can bring them here. The old species who lived here evolved and moved on. But they'll need a suitable leader...."

Y yessir, I know this is TOTALLY farcical.

Atem found himself taking a step back. Just a moment after that he shook his head. "The only feasible leader is Seth. I... I can't abandon the life I've grown back home." After all the nonsense he'd been through to get it, he couldn't just leave. Especially without warning.

His hands clenched at his sides, the only allowance towards discomfort and anxiety that he'd let show. Not giving up on the life back home, did that mean giving up on Seth and his people? He suddenly couldn't tell what was the right thing to do anymore.

Seth wished he had something to hold onto, or at least had the strength of character to show his true self and feelings in front of the messenger that brought back the only person he'd ever cared for.

"If we move them here....we can find a new leader," Seth whispered; saving his people seemed a fair final act as a desperate demi-Pharaoh. Maybe if he was lucky he'd be able to return with Atem to the Kingdom beyond this life.

"I will not let more of my people die unnecessarily."

That resolve for life was something he remembered from Atem. That sarcrifice.
