Despite having been raised in New England, Elizabeth didn't really like snow. It was fine for skiing, say, but she was quite happy staying inside in the warmth and watching the snow from her window.

One might accuse her of hiding, but she'd prefer to call it strategic concealment.

After cheerleading practice, Janet came back to the room, unlocked the door, and dropped everything in a heap. "Hey," she said to Elizabeth, slightly breathlessly.

"I missed a cheerleading practise?" asked Elizabeth, faking a pout.

[janet_fraiser]

"Poor baby," said Janet, leaning forward and brushing her mouth against Elizabeth's. "You were too busy doing--um, what have you been doing all day?"

Elizabeth smirked, nipping slightly on Janet's lip. "Reading mostly," she said. "Working on a translation."

"How is it that I end up falling in love with multilingual people?" asked Janet, outlining Elizabeth's lips with her fingers. "And what were you translating?"

Elizabeth softly kissed Janet's fingers, smiling. "I don't know," she said. "And just some document; I joined a translation company and they pay me for translating something I can do in my sleep."

"I didn't think you needed the extra money," said Janet, her fingertips sweeping along the edge of Elizabeth's cheek. "Or are you bored?"

Elizabeth sighed. "Mostly out of boredom, now I've got my college applications in," she said. "And extra money never hurts anyway."

"No, it really doesn't," agreed Janet. "My applications are all finished, and I've been working on articles that I can't publish, and research I really need a lab to do the rest of properly."

Elizabeth sighed again. "It's harder for you than it is for me," she said softly.

"That's not what I meant, you know," said Janet. "I certainly wasn't trying to make you feel guilty, hon, and I don't think it's any easier on you."

Elizabeth nodded slowly, reaching out to clasp Janet's hand. "At least we're together."

Janet nodded. "I don't know what I'd do without you," she said, her grip on Elizabeth's hand tightening. "I can do this if we're together, and I'm afraid I'd self-destruct otherwise."

"You've got me," murmured Elizabeth. "I'm not leaving you, honey."

"I know," said Janet, her mouth quirking into a small grin. "I do know that. We're stuck with each other."

"Shucks, what a hardship," said Elizabeth, smirking. "However will we cope?"
