Terror at just about sea level!

It seems like all I ever hear about anymore is people losing their jobs. I turn on the TV, people are getting laid off; I read my Friends' List, and it's either my Friends getting laid off or people they know getting laid off; newspapers talk about skyrocketing unemployment. I am a political guy, but usually things only effect me on the peripheral ( Read more... )

The economy is really scaring me too, especially when the downturn is hitting at the same time where I now have to support myself financially and my parents are moving across the country. I think I am pretty secure at my job, since I am a one person team who keeps the entire post production process running at the studio... but you never know, they could just close the doors one day like so many other places are doing.

I love my 360! But I'm really glad you are keeping your PS2. Out of any system I have ever had, I have played that one the most. And I STILL have a stack of RPG games to play on it. I have a launch PS2 that was bought on release day, and it's still chugging along just fine. :) :)

Yeah, my PS2 is a terrific system, I just feel like I have hit a wall with it. Maybe not! I'll have to look into what is out there for it. It just seems like the same old thing to me now. :)

You know, I was surprised when I went to Gamestop a few nights ago, and saw some PS2 games on the "New Release" shelf. They are STILL making new games for the system! That really says something. ^_^; What kind of games do you like to play? Maybe I can recommend something.

On the note of your health kick... good for you! I've been trying to eat a lot better too, especially since now that I'm practically lactose intolerant, lol. I have to be really careful about what I eat. But I've been down the fat road before, when I weighed over 200 pounds. I'm 5'8", and now I'm down to around 150, so I need to keep it that way! I still have old pictures and when I show them to people they don't recognize me at all. ^_^;

That's actually a big part of my problem; I'm really picky with games. After a decade or so, I've finally hit the point where sports games completely bore me unless I am playing with a friend, and RPGs get on my nerves if they are difficult and/or not well-written/developed.

I want more things like the Phoenix Wright series for my DS: excellently written with vivid characters and amazing story-telling, and not too complex. Not too much stuff going on, and not hard to beat. Basically, I want an interactive novel that I control, and yet every other game supposedly "like" PW that I have played (Hotel Dusk, Trauma Center) has been a huge disappointment to me.

Congrats on the weight loss you've accomplished over the years! Like I said...I don't want to lose, just maintain where I am. I've been on this kick for a year now, and it's been going well. I love healthy food, surprisingly, and I've always been an avid walker.

When that happened to me, I had spyware on my computer. I'd scan stat!

I'm trying, but Ad-Aware is such a little bitch program that constantly stops scanning and just sits there uselessly in scan mode a bit of the way through. I have to restart it two or three times before it will go all the way through.

Someone else just told me this is a Google thing right now, though.

Oh, good to know!

BTW, I totally read the rest of your post. In fact I was going to post yesterday about how I think the media might be making things a little worse, but decided that writing about it gives me anxiety and deleted it. :)

I dunno if the media is making it worse than it is, unless companies are watching news and thinking "WE'RE DOOMED; MUST CUT HOURS!" :) Which is eminently possible.

Yeah, the Google thing just happened to me, too. And for what I had searched, it brought up websites - like Facebook, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, etc. - that I already happen to have open on my computer.

I worry about the job situation, too. I think a lot of it is just because we won't know the economy has hit bottom until things get better, and things haven't gotten better yet. I also read a report from an economist saying that "We have no way of knowing if the bailout package worked or not" because there are too many factors at play for us to really know. Sigh...

Thanks for letting me know about the Google thing. I was really concerned I had jacked up my new Dell already. :)

On my googlereader I have a blog that's mainly a gossip site about celebrities. Except lately half the posts are about which company is cutting how many employees. And if you read them all at once, like I do, it's like DANG. I hear what you mean, I'm nervous.

What's Obama's health care plan? I know nothing about it...

Oh and yeah, it does seem to be google thing BUT photobucket did have malware last week. Seriously. I couldn't do anything Saturday as a result. It's why I'm mostly over photobucket and now a flickr convert.

Obama wants to follow the Swiss health care model (I believe) and MANDATE health care: everyone in the country would be legally required to have health care insurance, either through work or on their own dime. Of course, the government would subsidize some of the cost to help bring it within everyone's individual income level, but this doesn't HELP anyone when so many people are living paycheck-to-paycheck and don't have even a spare $100/month or so. And it leaves businesses stuck covering their own health care costs, causing them to cut employees and what they will cover. Not to mention everyone is still going to be at the mercy of insurance companies and HMOs regarding where and when they can seek help.
