One of the problems in having a birthday so soon after Christmas was that it tended to be kind of a let down, since most people were still partied out from the month before. So far, Will had gotten a couple of cards from distant relatives (but unsurprisingly, none from her Dad) and a package that her Mom had sent home with her over the holiday ( Read more... )

Valentines always had a way of showing up right when 'showing up' was the thing for Valentines to do.
Wanted company or not.
There was a knock on Will's door-- just outside was a Valentine, juggling glowy spheres with a grin.

Will heard the knock on the door, and -- setting down the present from her Mom on her bed -- went to go answer it. She was surprised to find that masked guy (Patrick? Noel? Oh, Valentine!) from the other day.

"Oh, hey!" she said.

Valentine offered a grin.
"Hey there," he replied, catching the spheres and finishing the routine with a showy bow. "I was in the neighbourhood and I thought I'd swing by to say hello."
He glanced past her for a moment, taking note of the wrapped gift on the bed. "Someone here wouldn't happen to be celebrating a birthday today, would they?"

Will applauded at his routine, and shoved some of the junk on her bed over in case he wanted a place to sit down. They really needed to get a couple of chairs in this place.

"Actually, someone would. I'm 16 today.!"

After a handwavey trip to J,GOB and stop by Sparky's to pick up a certain now un-broken present, Teddy returned to the room with a frog with a bow under one arm and a frog shaped cake in his hands. He felt the urge to turn green, just to match.

"Will!" He said, kicking the door slightly.

Had Teddy not been carrying a cake, Will likely would have glomped him with joy. As it was, she just squeed loudly and flailed a bit.

"Teddy!" she answered joyfully. "It's, it's, eeeeeee!"

Teddy winced as the pitch got higher and set the cake down on Will's desk. He held out the frog plushie. "Happy birthday!"

Will grinned and took the frog plushie from Teddy's hand. She looked it over carefully and noticed something. "Isn't this the same one from earlier?"
