Ed's older and wiser, or so one would assume. He's 21 years old now, and he's supposed to have got it all figured out - who he is, what he's doing, and what the point is of even being here. ...okay, he was pretty sure that was Ed downstairs. And his surety increased when Ed ran right up to this room.

But now that Duo hears banging around from the other side of the door, he is positive.

He knocks, first. "Ed? You okay?"

Ed freezes in his actions, and there's a long silence before he even responds. He's not sure if he wants to speak to anyone, you see - but in the end, this is Duo. Ed's missed the guy, and Maxwell doesn't tend to put off a stink of things that Ed's managed to lose again and again. And if all else fails? Well, he's good for kicking, too.

"It's all relative," he shoots back through the door, his response of a real helpful nature. "You, me, we're all okay to someone."

"Compared to the poor bastards I've been digging out of the minefields lately, sure, I'm just peachy. You? That might take comparison to long term psychiatric patients."

There's a thump as Duo leans against the door and crosses his arms.

"Are you hiding for a reason?"

"I'm not hiding," Ed says, his tone sharp. "Cowards hide."

But what the hell is he doing? Is there another way to explain it?
