[Let's pretend it is the middle of the night. Cissie... looks like crap. Like she hasn't slept since the flood ended, which hey! Happens to be true. She's hollow-eyed and pale and just not herself. ...That lack of sleep might have turned off her usual brain-to-mouth filters.]I guess ( Read more... )

I've been trying to ignore it, because I need the degree of separation that the acts committed there are divided from the people I know here. Their life experiences aren't shared by the ones here, even if it came down to one small difference [Like it did with him.]

It has to. [Because the confusion just got him punched by Arthas.]

You could perhaps keep an eye on some of the inmates working here.

I think it's sensible not to try and treat patients whilst suffering like that.

Perhaps you could show one of the newer inmates what he can do to help, actually.

A man called Rastlin, he does not have a warden at the minute, and I'm unsure exactly as to the procedure in allowing an inmate like that to help.

I don't think I know him yet. Do you think--hmm. I guess we just keep a really close eye on him until he gets one, and make sure he doesn't get put in a position to do any harm.

...Which sounds incredibly cynical of me.

It's not apathy. Sometimes, pretending is the only thing that will make it okay.

It doesn't always work.

[Pause.]

You can always come and help me do paperwork. [Another pause] ...And take something if you need to. For the sleep.

I guess you're right. Sometimes it's hard to tell who's only pretending.

I'd like to help, if that's okay. [pause] ...Does it help? Taking something?

That's how they prefer it.

I can give you what I take. If that doesn't work, you'll have to go find someone to knock you out.

...True. You'd think I'd know that, given who my first inmate was.

[Tiny smile] Thank you, Sveta. Hopefully it won't come to that, but that is another option.

Hand of cards? Not poker; something blessedly simple, like gin rummy.

And yes, faking it does catch up with you eventually. You've seen me do it. But it helps for a little while, at least.

I like gin rummy. Are you maybe up for a game?

I think I'd take that little while right now.
