[39] Coping Mechanism is Go

[Cissie has realized brooding is not her thing. Her thing is forced cheer and throwing herself into her work! She will kill you with friendliness, no matter how depressed she's feeling! And she doesn't even know the worst of it.]

So, looks like we've got a bunch of new people. Hi! [Cue cheerful friendly wave!] I'm Cissie, one of the wardens ( Read more... )

[Spike looks impressed.]

Well now. That's a nice bit of shiny you've got there.

[Aaand now Cissie looks slightly embarrassed, but smiles.]

Uh, thanks. It was a few years ago.

I mean, I could tell you were good when I saw you practicing, but that's... well, I can't say I pay much attention to human sport things. But still, it's something, you know? Neat.

[She blushes a little, but mostly is smiling happily. Because yeah, she's kind of proud of herself when she lets herself be.]

Thanks. It was pretty awesome. So, any interest in lessons?

I don't think that's really my type of thing. [What he means is, there's no strength in his arms whatsoever.:|] Thank you or the offer, though.

About the job...I don't know. It depends on what you have in mind. And when you say "animals", you mean...?

[Yeah, she kind of figured as much. ;)] No problem. If you ever change your mind, the offer stands, though.

As for the job, well, I know the kitchens are always short-staffed. I think the lunch and breakfast shifts are quieter than dinner. And then there's the art room. I don't think anyone does much with it, which is kind of a shame, but I also think it might be a good idea if someone was at least in the room sometimes, you know?

And I mean a hamster. I got one for Christmas, but... I have a cat. He's a little too interested in the hamster for my liking. I wondered if you want some company? He's pretty low maintenance, as far as pets go.

I'm beginning to think I'm the only one who uses the art room. I was barely able to use a stove back home without burning something. I'm not trying to get out of it. I'd really like something to do. I just don't know what there is for me to do in the art room when so few people use it, and I don't want to do anything to ruin anyone else's dinner.

...And I appreciate the offer, but I'm really not sure I'm the best person to take care of another living thing.

Well, there are probably a lot of other things you can do without touching the actual cooking implements, you know? Prep work and stuff? But if you really don't want that, there's also the gym and the gardens, aaand the infirmary? I guess the art room could get boring, yeah, but it might not hurt to have someone at least handling inventory down there.

...Why do you say that?

I wouldn't mind a few lessons.

I'm Sarah, by the way. We may have already met - ah...I've met a lot of people lately.

Great! Just let me know when works best for you. My schedule's pretty wide open.

I think we might have talked once [HA no, just Loki shapeshifting], but it's still nice to meet you officially. This place can be a little overwhelming, huh?

Oh, I don't know about overwhelming. It definitely has some quirks, though.

Heh, yeah. I guess I just meant in terms of how many people there are to meet. It'd be a lot all at once. How long have you been here?

My goodness, that's impressive.

I think I'd like some lessons, or possibly a girl's night maybe? I could use something silly... not that the lessons are silly, of course but... Something fun.

Thanks, Martha. We could do both--I'd be happy to teach you, and I think a girls night is perfect. I know I could definitely use one. How're you doing?

I've been better, but I'll be all right. When do you wanna do a girl's night?

The sooner, the better, frankly. This weekend, maybe?

[Pffft, yeah right. I sense a postponement.]

[Yeah, Cissie is tempted to not even bother replying. Because what the heck. It takes her at least half an hour to change her mind.]

What.
