What's Ash Wednesday?

It's a Christian holiday on Earth. Long story short, it's a day of repentance that starts Lent, a period of 40 days where we either give up something or add something that'd benefit our lives.

I'd go into more specifics, but that's when we start talking about Jesus and... well? I usually lose my audience then.

Hm. I see.

This "Jesus"... Would that name pop up in the library?

Definitely. He's an important figure in Catholicism - my religion specifically - so you can always read more if you're interested.

I figure the library would probably explain better than I ever could.

Well, things were a little... erm, overwhelming last week... I even completely forgot about decorating the library!

Your mum sounds like a very impressive woman, Jaime!

Whoa, seriously? I'll be sure to help today if even you were that distracted.

... Yeah. My mom was amazing. I just hope she's not too worried about me being away from home for this long.

Ehehe... well, the holiday is a week over now... I suppose I'll just have to make sure I remember next year... Besides, I think general consensus is that everyone would rather put Valentine's Day behind them at this point...

Do you remember being away from home often before now?

Ah, right... for a second I almost thought we were talking about Lent decorations. There's always getting an early start on St. Patrick's Day?

Not yet. It just seemed like she was the kind of person who would worry, though, if I was out of her sight for a while.

. . . Huh? I didn't know boys could marry other boys. And wow! There are a lotta real superheroes where you come from?! I wish there were in my world.

They can! Just... not in Texas. You don't remember last week? A bunch of guys here got married to other guys.

I'm sure there's some kinds of superheroes in your world. Mine just happens to have them as part of the landscape.

I only heard about being married . . . Can girls marry other girls, too, then?

Nope. We only have them in comic books. I don't think Digimon count as superheroes . . .

I guess so. Never really thought about it before.

They should. Digimon seem pretty darn special to me.

I thought as much. And I think everything I remembered after that really is true this time, too.

Your mom sounds amazing! She got a superhero to stop fighting? Wow. Was she a superhero too? No, I guess you would have mentioned that. Your mom sounds kind of scary, though. Um, but what does Catholic mean?

Yeah... I'm not quite sure I want to get rid of the clothes yet, though. My tux was really nice. [This is Jaime-ese for "the wedding wasn't actually as bad as I thought. Just awkward."]

That she did. He even apologized and everything! Mom can be kinda scary sometimes, but she means well. Catholicism? It's just the name of my religion back home. You follow some god or deity too, right?

I know we had the Church of Martel back home, but I don't remember much else except that the Church itself had some problems. Maybe a lot of problems. I'm not even entirely sure who Martel is--I thought she was a goddess, but Professor Klarth says she replaced Ratatosk as a summon spirit so I'm not sure if there's two Martels or if they're the same somehow.

...It's really confusing to think about. Anyway, your mom really sounds great. I don't remember much about mine, but I think she was a good person.

I don't think I've even heard of your Church. Yeah, I think I'll just pretend we had a good religious discussion and never speak of it again.

She probably was. I mean, she's your mom, right? Moms are supposed to love and protect their kids.

...You're saying that there's a group of superheroes who're weak to yellow? So, what, they just run away whenever they see a school bus?

Reply

notaluchador February 23 2010, 22:47:38 UTC
Maybe! Like I said, I'm not sure on that... and Guy sure didn't seem to be weak to it at all.

*giiiiive him a sec here, okay now he's done laughing*

But still, being weak to yellow? Lamest superhero weakness ever. Even if this Guy...guy doesn't have any problems with it.

...wait, so superheroes are common where you're from?

Well, yeah. They're dirt common - and practically in the news all the time - but I don't think my home really had any. Seems like the big cities, like Gotham and Metropolis, got them all the time.
