Room 418, Tuesday Evening

Funny how what had seemed like more than a year's accumulation of stuff when Door moved into and out of the cabins isn't taking very long to pack tonight, even with Chimney fluttering about making questionably helpful suggestions in Pigeon.

Then again, it's not that she doesn't have a boatload of books and clothing and random recipes for pie. It'

Dawn poked her head in. "Oh, good. I didn't miss you." Then she realized how that sounded. "Well, I will miss you, but I can't miss you yet, because you're still here, and wow, I should really stop talking. Anything you need?"

Door laughs. "Come on in. Talk all you like." She surveys the piles of Take and Leave. "At this point it's more about making sure I leave the stuff I don't need."

She wasn't sure which pile was which, and kind of stood in the middle of the room so she didn't knock anything over. "You can't take it all with you?"

"Not easily. I have a house, but..." Door shakes her head. "It's where my family was attacked. It's dangerous to even visit it now." Not that that's going to stop her, but there's a difference between sneaking in to look for clues, and actually living there.

"Do you have somewhere else to go?"

[notajar]

"I have someone to go to, and he's expecting me." She rolls her eyes. "He's not happy about it, but he's expecting me. He'll be able to find someplace. Not as safe as here, but he's amazing resourceful." For the right price.

"Okay, then." Dawn took a deep breath and went for the hug. "You'll call or write if you need help?"

Door hugs back gratefully. "I will, if I can. I think I'll be able to."

"You better," Dawn told her, letting go and stepping away. "Be careful?"

It's becoming a refrain tonight, but Door can understand why. "I will," she sys, nodding. "I want to find my sister; getting myself killed would make it a lot harder."
