God Bless the Queen

We have a president in this country who wishes us to believe he cares, that he is a Uniter-nary a Divider. I beg to differ, sir. I will always expect there to be a fringe on either side of any political spectrum intent on bringing radical measures to vote (or, even, committee) that haven’t the slightest ability to make it into law. But when the ( Read more... )

Initially, I figured the only reason Bush was pushing this issue so hard was to pander to his über-conservative base. I can (almost) respect that. But what really chaps my ass is how Dicky Boy Cheney hasn’t stood up and said how ridiculous this is-having an openly gay daughter and all. Is getting reelected enough reason to subvert the rights of one’s own kin? Jesus, I hope not. At least Mrs. Cheney has been vocal of late in saying that the issue should be left up to the states ( ... )

ive got no beef with divorce. Divorce away for all I care. The thing is, that by embracing divorce, and spitting upon gay marriage at the same time, it is insanely hypocritical.

If you look back into bushy's 2000 campaign, he said he was for leaving it up to the states. That bastard.

Yeah, as I said in my last post, there’s so much hypocrisy on either side-though I seem to see it all the more in the current administration.

Bush also said no nation building. Woops. It just goes to show that politicians will do whatever they think will get them elected. Gross. Disgusting. Etc, etc.

I feel bad reading people's journals without them knowing, so...

You might not remember me. Melanie from Tech Team. Haha. Nerdy.

Anyway, I was looking up Bend journals and came across yours, and I like what you have to say, and as for this post, I wholeheartedly agree. My opinion is that marriage in this country is an entirely secular event (despite its origins), and therefore religious grounds for leaving a group of people out of it are not applicable. That pretty much leaves the "slippery slope" argument, which is very weak.

But yeah. Hope you don't mind if I add you.

Oh my, there’s nothing like a little nostalgia to start the day off right. Good to hear from you. Haha…Tech Team…I can’t stop laughing….

I’ll be adding you right on back.

hey alex, its cecily, you know al's little sister haha. i just wanted to say that i cant agree with you more, you are absolutely right and i wish i could see you sit down with bush or whoever the president is at the time and just ask him what the fuck his problem is. your emotions are the only thing that the government, politics or anyone else for that matter, can control. not even you can control who you love. so i say fuck a formal marriage, why wait for the government to say that your love and committment for the other person is official, unless you really want to. i dont see the point in spending a whole bunch of money on one day/night just to get a damn paper that says that your marriage is valid. i say be cheap( or not, your choice), get together with some friends, maybe have some sort of celebration or whatever you want(get real drunk, have fun), and call it good. that to me sounds a lot better than a formal wedding. however, i do want to be married someday, not sure why, but it sure as hell wont be formal and if they tell me ( ... )

I'm printing this and putting it up outside my room, a space usually reserved for Maureen (Dowd) and the folks at the Economist and The Nation. Which is to say, this was brilliant. Maybe you can get a guest columnist spot at the Times once you head out east? Friedman's off writing a book, afterall.

Three cheers,
