With the firefox thing I think they could definately improve the amount of memory used for storing images in the X server - however part of the reason for it would be to allow graphics card acceleration in the X server.

Also, I hear that that graphics cards can store pixmaps compressed now which would be an issue for X.org rather than the Mozilla group.
