It was Christmas. The last few months had been long ones, but Stefan was back home and back to himself. Elena was back with him, and no longer leaning on Damon like he was the only thing holding her up. Everyone was okay, or well on their way to being okay ( Read more... )

Damon took the drink with a half-smile that he tried not to turn into a grin. It was a good night, and a good season, and, fine, the year had kind of sucked in a lot of ways, but as far as he was concerned, things were looking up. Way up, in some ways, and wasn't that a fantastic feeling?

He was learning a sort of sensitivity in sharing his own glee, though, without being certain if others shared it, so...the half-smile, and a simple return of, "Merry Christmas."

After taking the drink, though, he sank down on the sofa and stretched out his legs. Maybe he wasn't going to outright glee about anything, but he could radiate contentment if he wanted to.

Ric circled around the side of the sofa and sprawled down beside Damon with far more grace than he'd ever possessed as a human, and looked over at him with a slightly raised eyebrow and smile. "You look like the cat that got the canary." No complaint though. None. At. All. It was a very, very good look on Damon.

Damon's gaze followed him, still fascinated by those small changes in the way Ric moved, the way he looked. You had to know him really well to catch it, but Damon did, and the changes were stunning in his mind. This...wasn't something he would have known how to broach, to ask about, to suggest, but now he had it and he, honestly, couldn't be happier.

"Do I?" he asked, mostly in a murmur. "It's a beautiful night, we've got a current state of...pretty much all's right with the world, for once. Why shouldn't I?"

There was a hesitation there, about things being right, but Ric like this was so much better than Ric dead, or slowly dying, in Damon's mind. Losing him...was not something he knew if he could handle.

Ric leaned back and stretched his legs out, crossed at the ankle, and took a drink from his glass. If nothing else, the fire was prettier, the drink was better, and he was able to pick Damon's voice up more easily.

"No reason." He wanted Damon more at ease. Yeah, he'd had issues in the past and was likely to run into them again in the future, but right now... all was right in their world. "If you keep it up, though, you get to explain to Elena why I'm calling you Sylvester."
