Sherlock though thinks he can handle this, knowing he got someone like Watson or Mrs Hudson killed might have been another. I considered using that but Sherlock would have demanded proof.

In truth it is part of setting them both up for Sherlock's return to John, of which Jim has every intention of doing. So all of it is about setting them both up for the inevitable return.
