I look up as I hear a door slam, voices momentarily in the hall.

"Klaus? Is that you?" PLEASE don't make me come chasing after you, big guy.

I stop when I hear her voice and glance over to meet her eyes.

It's...funny. This castle takes away time and reality for just a few moments. It's part of a vampire's castle, to be beyond the walls of reality and the natural and to be in a place that's outside the laws of science and possibility. Time doesn't exist, just as it doesn't exist for our kind.

Carolyn is a stranger here. She doesn't quite belong. She's a human in our world now and I know she wouldn't want to stay here.

Yet...

With her standing there, holding the doorknob as though she did belong her and me just watching her with the glare of the sun coming up through the windows...

Is it so strange, so abnormal, to want to stay...just like this...forever?

"You shouldn't be up without some sort of assistance, you know. If you fall, you could sue us." Bright grin in place, not like that's a difficult thing to do. It's in lost moments like these that I can forget what's in the next room.

I give him a dry look suited to this kind of crazy (but hopefully less crazy than yesterday) morning.

"I'm fine, Klaus. If I need help, I'll yelp for it, okay? Besides. I woulnd't sue you. Your lawyers would trample me."

His look before he saw me was... hm. Not a happy one. Argh, such a decision; talk to him now and risk upsetting him further? Or wait until he's better and risk him putting his batso plan into action? If he even HAS one?

She's contemplating something, I believe. Can't figure out what unless I break into her thoughts and I already swore to myself that I wouldn't do such a thing. She's earned her privacy.

"Suit yourself. Best that you walk anyway. Can't blame me for being paranoid." I go on over to her and come close to nuzzling her neck. "It's not as though you have our strength."

But I don't nuzzle. I don't bite either. Maybe I just like teasing her and the old adage is true.

"You must be feeling better then. Alex is still out and is likely to remain so for a bit. Sophie is currently with him. Need anything, my injured one?"

I can't help myself from pulling back JUST a little bit as he comes close. It's habit, Klaus; a lot of years of habit. I hope he doesn't take it too personally.

"I am feeling better. Does Sophie know what happened? Ah... speaking of Sophie..." and I swear I look up and down the hall like agent 99.

"C'mere a minute. I need to talk to you." and I grab him by the lapel and yank him in.

....ow. STUPID back.
