I totally like nectarines far more than peaches. This seems like a betrayal of the natural order of things. Aren't peaches supposed to be the end-all and be-all of pitted fruit?
You're probably eating them wrong. Peaches should be eaten so ripe that you can use a paring knife to just nick the skin and then pull (not pare) it away from the fruit in thin strips that curl on the edges. The fruit is left smooth like a baby's butt and so soft that you can barely touch it without leaving a mark. If you can't do that to your peaches, they are insufficiently ripe. (The time between "sufficiently ripe" and "past prime" is about one day. It's not much of a window, there.) Once they're peeled, you eat them by cutting them into tidy sections with a knife so that they do not drip all down your shirt. (They will anyway.)
Nectarines are (in my opinion) nowhere near as tasty as peaches. Not even close. I don't think nectarines get juicy enough and they don't have the same richness of flavor that peaches have.
