OOC: Availability of the "You knew this was coming, right?" variety

Aug 07, 2008 23:42

So, in case you couldn't guess what with the turning all my girls into animals thing or the numerous OOC references I've made -- or all the flailing in my RL journal, if I have you on my flist -- I'm going to England for a week! It's my first time overseas, and I'm going to be really, REALLY busy. Like, London-in-three-days kind of busy. I have a ( Read more... )

GOOD LUCK!

Have a great trip, ride the London Eye, and hit up the half price ticket booth in Leicester Square if you have time for a show. I wish I could hide in your suitcase.

Omg London Eye is part of my first day of sightseeing! I'm a little terrified because I'm not scared of heights or anything, and I love rollercoasters etc., but I'm one of those people who'll spend her entire time in line the first time she rides something going "WHAT IF THIS IS THE ONLY TIME EVER THAT IT BREAKS AND WE ALL DIE?"

And I don't know that I'm going to get to see a show while I'm there, but I do have tickets for the RSC production of The Taming of the Shrew once I move on to Stratford-on-Avon. Stupid Hamlet (WITH DAVID TENNANT!!!!!!!!) was sold out.

Hahahahaha! I'm not usually big on go-up-the-big-thing sightseeing (my husband is from St. Louis and I've never been up the Arc) in part because I also get a little twitchy, but the Eye is AWESOME.

Also? Westminster Abbey. And there used to be a good cheap noodle chain called Wagamama that I think was pretty veggie friendly, but I haven't been back in five years so that may no longer be true.

Yay Shakespeare in Stratford! I didn't get to do that.

My terribly exciting London itinerary, as I remember it off the top of my head, is like Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Parliament/Big Ben/London Eye, the Globe, Tower of London, St. Paul's, the Old Bailey, the British Museum, Bloomsbury, the Dickens House, and 221B Baker St. because I AM A DORK. It's going to be a very literary few days in London, which makes sense since I'm ostensibly going over for teaching material and experience to use in my career and all.

Oooh, that's right, you're a native! I forgot! I'm doing London in three days omg but I actually have both of those on my list, go me. A lot of it is literary stuff because this is ostensibly a study trip (I'm getting my concentration in English literature) so I'm hitting the Globe and Westminster and Bloomsbury for sure omg, and then on day 4 I'm heading to Stratford-on-Avon. Which is totally going to be the vacation part of my vacation, all things considered, since I have NOTHING planned there and I can kind of just walk everywhere and I'm staying at an inn where I'll HAVE MY OWN ROOM rather than at a hostel.

*babbles at you*

HEEE. *dorks out*

See, now Stratford is my part of the country! Strong and far too recent memories of falling on my ass in the snow outside Shakespeare's birthplace. *facepalms*

Um, anywaaaay, yes... So if you're looking for a Cotswolds/Warwickshire walking yellow pages, just yell and I can offer helpful advice! Or try, anyway.

ETA: because it just occurred to me. Since you're a fannish type person, there has been a bunch of stuff filmed around there if that's the sort of thing you might want to check out. Bridget Jones, Harry Potter, Vanity Fair, The Libertine, a bunch of slightly less exciting BBC adaptations... I really know far too much on this subject. Ahem.
