So school has started up again and I'm teaching gym again. I thought that was pretty strange from the beginning; that they'd let a woman teach gym class in a place like this. Of course...I only teach the girls, and I'm not supposed to teach them much more than jump rope and hop scotch. But for the non-drones in the school I'll still be teaching a ( Read more... )

If you do know how to control adults, kids aren't really that different. But karate? ...That takes care of the misbehaving children then.

I'm not going to use my karate to discipline children. Are you nuts?

I am only joking, of course~ Make them fear you and they'll never come to class again, that is not an option at all, now is it?

But if you just keep in mind that those kids can be full of surprises, then you'll manage. After all, it's Mayfield, I wonder if even half of them are human.

It doesn't matter if they're human or not. They're still just kids.

And adults can have just as many surprises as kids do.

Just basic things I guess? How do you keep them under control if they act up? How do you know when you're pushing them too hard?

I mean...a lot of it seems that it would be common sense, but I'd like to hear opinions still.

Keeping children under control is always a matter of staying in control. You are the educator. Make sure they're aware of that. Rule infringement must be punished promptly, but not overly harshly. Problem children should be dealt with on a personal basis. There's no need to embarrass anyone in front of their peers.

They'll inform you when you're asking too much of them. Learn to distinguish whining from a true unrewarded effort and you'll be set.

Well, I'm just teaching gym right now. Not karate. I've been giving some private lessons though.

If you're interested I probably could do the same for you.

If you hit 'em really hard in the head, they stop moving and talking and become much more pleasurable company.
