It was kind of nice, really. And there was a wee tiny mariachi band providing music, too, and he finished putting the last of his meager ( Read more... )

Worf glared at the tiny band as he entered the room before turning his attention to Cal.

"You are leaving," he observed.

The tiny band stopped dead in the face of the glare. They waited. Once Worf's attention shifted over, they started playing again, but a lot quieter, and a much more somber, foreboding sort of melody.

As somber and foreboding as mariachi can get, anyway. Which wasn't very.

Cal tried not to be amused, and utterly failed. "Yeah," he confirmed. "For the summer. I've a great pilgrimage to make."

"Yes. Turkey," Worf replied. "I trust you have prepared for your journey? The late 20th Century can be perilous."

Dinah headed to Cal's room to check on when he was leaving which, from the looks of it, was nearly immediately. "Okay, you have to send postcards from 1977. I can use them if I get stuck in a history class." She put her hands in her back pockets and shook her head. "You have to promise to come back."

"I promise to come back," Cal vowed, nodding with a hand to his head so as not to dislodge his sombrero, "excepting that I'm not brutally killed for being a bloody infidel."

"They got a lot of those in Turkey in the Seventies?" Dinah asked, not really clear on that. Strangely, the sombrero was reassuring. Nobody would brutally kill a guy who looked like Sancho Panza, right? They'd be too busy giggling, like she wanted to. "Would they give you a real nice funeral at the church you're helping restore?"

"Probably not," Cal said. "They'd probably spit on my corpse and kick dirt in my face and then steal my nice hat."

Amber leaned her shoulder against the frame of the door. "I hear it's hot in Turkey this time of year. Make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen."

"Well, at least I won't have to see your red skinny ass," she said, grinning.

"Skinny ass, huh?" asked Cal, looking over his shoulder toward the derriere in question. "You're just jealous."
