Orion's been spending more time cooped up in the bar, now that it's winter. And he's really, really not happy about it. He's taken to bothering patrons, chasing their shoelaces about and hunting small scraps of paper ( Read more... )

It’s at this point that- the corridor being, in fact, a corridor, and so a thoroughfare for human traffic- Sands appears ‘round the corner.

It takes a moment for the scene in front of him to register.

With great care, and with barely a change of expression, he begins to slowly back away.

Oh, no he doesn't. After over two years, Ajedrez has a Sands-radar that is very, very sensitive.

She glances over, and smiles at him. Bright and happy and it might not mean a thing.

"Oh, hey, baby, come to join us?"

"Sands!"

Mal looks...suspiciously gleeful.

"We were just about to go for a drink, want to come?"

“Uh… no.”

He inches back another half-step, eyeing the two of them warily.

Sands really isn't that far away, and Ajedrez can move fast when she wants to, skirt and high-heeled boots notwithstanding.

And so it is that Sands has an arm captured by a curvey ex-girlfriend who is smiling at him with bright, bright eyes.

He really does pick them, doesn't he?"

"Come on, it'll be fun. Besides, you need to relax a little."

Vampires are really rather fast, aren't they?

And so it is that there's a second girl on his other arm, also beaming up at him.

"She's right, you know. You're far too tense."

“I don’t want to relax.”

He backs away hastily, but somebody has built an inconvenient wall behind him. The only escape route is forwards.

Cautiously, Sands tugs his arms.

Well, now, that just allows Ajedrez to get a better grip. She slides her hands and her arm around his, resting her head against his shoulder briefly.

"It'll be good for you, Sands," and her quiet voice is a purr.

Mal wouldn't have let go anyway. She reaches up with her free hand, tugs a piece of his hair.

"You owe me a drink, anyhow."

“It won’t. It really won’t,” he insists desperately, jerking away first from Ajedrez’s head and then Mal’s hand.

The tricky thing about attack from both sides is that running away from one just puts you at greater risk from the other. Sands leans his head back against the wall in compromise, closing his eyes.

"Hmm, Mal, do you think we can drag him down to the bar without him escaping, or should we have a Plan B?"

"Well."

Mal stands on her tiptoes, kisses the very side of his cheek, then grins at Ajedrez.

"My room's pretty near here, hmm?"

"Hmm, do you have alcohol?"

"I should, if Sands hasn't drank it all. And one of us would tie him up, and then the other could go get some more."

And Sands’ eyes snap open again.

“Don’t.”

He’s speaking to Mal, but his eyes are on Ajedrez.
