you can tell when someone is young--when the conversation goes eternally: "do you like this, how about this?" "..." young people identify with their music (movies, books, television, internet sites/profile setups, haircuts/clothing, hobbies, etc.) and identify even moreso when others connect with the identity. the older folks-- bitter, apathetic ( Read more... )

My favorite similar interchange was with a college roommate:

Gurdonark (cues the album 801 Live)

[the album plays Brian Eno singing "You Really Got Me" over a Manzanera guitar line and a simple synth keys]

Roommate: "That's a VAN HALEN song!"

Gurdonark: "actually, it's a Kinks song"

Roommate: "That's a VAN HALEN song".

Gurdonark "Actually, Van Halen covered a Kinks song--this is 801's cover of that same Kinks song"

Roommate: "That's a VAN HALEN song".
