actually there are more than two women in command positions (not including TOS pilot) mentioned in Trek: Captain Rachel Garrett of Enterprise C, Yesterday's Enterprise, TNG episode. Major Kira was first officer of Deep Space Nine and upon the Emissary's disappearance/death/magically joining the prophets, became the commander of DS9; Captain Janeway; Subcommander T'Pol who is first officer of Enterprise. This does not include those above captain's rank like Admiral Nechayev ( ... )

Best scene in Trek ever is when Quark and IIRC Garak bitch about how crap the Federation is, comparing it to root beer.

It's scary to think that, centuries from now, sexual standards will be those of current US network television. Of course, that's not implausible - I just wish they'd stop pretending they're living in a utopia, and explore *why* Paris and Kim have to refer to their affair in code as "the Delaney sisters".
