It was nice to know his existence served some larger purpose in the universe, even if it was to give Luna a friend.

That's a lovely line. :-)

I really enjoyed this -- I find Neville's atheism very believable and IC, and I like his interaction with Luna here. (And is that a Douglas Adams reference I spot in the title?)

Thanks. It feels good to know a reader thinks Neville was IC here and that he conversation worked.

And yes I couldn't help the Douglas Adams reference.

This is beautiful and excellent. Luna definitely “shines a light on things” people wouldn’t like to become aware of or discuss. And then it’s so wonderful that she, accepting that he doesn’t share her beliefs, can make him smile and feel happy immediately - and eventually see purpose of his life as it is in a new way.

I wonder what’s the purpose in my finding this community (as a newsletter’s featured community) and this wonderful challenge only now. I’m so slow that I can hardly craft even a 100-word piece in couple of days. In any case it’s great to be surprised by other people!

Thank you for your lovely comments on my ficlet. I'm very pleased by your reactions to my Luna. I struggle to write her well. She's a character often reduced to comments about wierd animals, but she's more than that. She has her own voice and outlook that's distinctive yet hard to capture.

Please consider entering the fest. It really is no pressure. I'm the mod of this fest and I'm considering extending the fest to the days before Thanksgiving. That would provide a more natural ending date.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply (although at the moment I’m bound to find it a bit intimidating, too! I’ve just completed a draft for a short piece in which Luna’s voice alternates with my OTC’s, Remus’s voice, and since I’m writing hers for the first time, I’m not sure at all it’s distinctive enough.)

This wonderful idea for as short (surprise) pieces as possible is sure to stay in my mind, and thank you! Thanks to you I’ve now found and joined another interesting community, too: Misfit Fics. If you don’t mind, I’d like to friend you as well. I’ve always loved Longbottoms, and I very much like the way you write Neville here.

I'd love for you to friend me and I will friend you back. I mostly write about the Longbottoms so I hope you like my work. I'm sure you've done a great job with Luna. You appreciate her. I love the misfit fics community.

This is a good way to frame two types of thoughts on divinity. And with a heart warming ending no less!
