Gail Simone has announced by Tweet that;

"On Wednesday of last week, new Batgirl editor Brian Cunningham informed me by email that I was no longer the writer of Batgirl."Haven't really been following the title, and I still think it was one of the least necessary reboots imaginable in the "DCnU", but I know it has it's fans, as has Ms Simone ( Read more... )

Wow--and I could swear that just the other day on Tumblr someone said something about her no longer writing it and she assured them that she was. Guess it was a shock to her too.

?? Haven't been reading Batgirl so can't even speculate as to why. But I have to wonder what is going on at DC.

Man, I don't even read any DC comics, but "DC's Wacky Editorial Decisions" is like its own little soap opera saga that I follow with bemused fascination. Every time you think the drama's settled down they come out with a baffling new twist.

I miss the days when that soap opera was called "Marvel's Wacky Editorial Decisions" and I could watch it and still read mah favorite stories.

I'm sure DC's having one hell of a party right now getting flooded with complaints from fans via their Twitter, Facebook, and their contact page. Very stupid move on DC's part, considering they've already been called out consistently on their sexism throughout this reboot. They're going to lose a whole new set of fans over his alone.

Yeah I think my roommate and I pulled out older comics from less than 5 years ago and noted MANY more female creators then currently. At last count, Gail was the ONLY female creator of note in DC comics, there were no other female writers, artists or editors AT ALL.

Well, DC currently has Ann Nocenti on Catwoman and the upcoming Katana series, Nicola Scott is still on Earth-2, and Amanda Conner is still doing minis for DC, but yeah, that's ONE LESS female creator working at DC Comics as of 2013.

Way to ruin someone's Chanukah this weekend.

Yeah I had forgotten they added a few to the roster.

When the reboot first started Gail was the only one...let alone one with any sort of name-recongnition among fans.

Why they didn't pair her up with Scott on BG from the start boggled me.
