A Nolan batman movie trailer I think we can all get behind

Jul 18, 2012 13:24

I confess to having not much interest in Nolan's Batman movies, not just the lack of dashing sidekicks, but also the general gloomy tone and growly Batman did nothing for me...

That being said... )

I'm glad you made this post. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one in the world (or maybe just on the internet) who does not feel that Nolan's Batman is the one true vision of Batman.

I don't want a Batman that's all campy like the 60's TV show. I don't even want a Batman that's all... weird like the Schumacher movies. A level of darkness right about even with the animated series or the Tim Burton movie would work just fine for me. But that's not grim and gritty enough for today's fan, I suppose.

I would watch this version of the movie (and will probably set the DVR for the marathon). As for the real one? I'll wait until it comes out on DVD, and just watch for Selina.

(edited: Can't spell before caffeine.)

I remember saying at the time, "The Dark Knight" was a great movie, but not a great Batman movie. Batman TAS is still the gold standard, in terms of getting all the aspects of the character right, and keeping the proper balance between the angst and the nobility and the sense of adventure.

Allow me to join the long list of people who "do not care about Nolanverse". I may not be a big Batman fan (as in - I don't like him at all) but I did enjoy the original Batman films - with the notable exception of the second one - and I really liked BB. TDK, not so much. I don't know, I just feel like Nolanverse films are ashamed they are based on the comic book. On top of that, Nolan's ridiculous hate on Robin is getting on my nerves.

I will still see TDKR but more as an obligation than a pleasure.

I like the Nolan movies, but I hope the next set of Batman movies are made by someone that doesn't hate Robin/isn't scared of the character. It's one of the most important Batman characters and it's ridiculous how many people appear in the movies and directors still refuse to give Robin a chance.

Now that was a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing it. :)

Very clever use of clips there. But did they get the cast back to record a few new lines? Pretty sure at least a few of them never appeared in TAS.

As for the larger issue... I've enjoyed the Nolan movies. I hate the voice, but the action and the storytelling have been very good. It's not a definitive version, but it's a solid one.

For me, the best Batman will always be TAS. (Not to be confused with the later New Batman Adventures.) It was a labor of love, and it shows. Complex plots, good characterization, wide cast of characters, amazing art, outstanding voice cast, and real attention to detail.

Which brings me to Akrham Asylum and Akrham City. They were made for TAS fans. It's darker and more adult, but playing Akrham Asylum felt like stepping into a grown up episode of TAS.

The New Batman Adventures was season 4 of Batman The Animated Series though. It just the art redesign to mesh better with Superman The Animated Series and because the old art style was getting too expensive.

Also thanks for posting that trailer icon_uk! It really is awesome.

It was nominally season 4 of the same show, but not only did the art quality drop dramatically, the writing became much more formulaic. There were some good episodes, but overall, the weakest episodes of TAS were on par with an average episode of NBA.

I don't mind Gotham in the new movies, the villains have been okay to great, and Oldman's Gordon is quite good. I just HATE Bale's Batman. I don't like his voice, I don't like his acting.

But of course, I cut my teeth on the Animated Series, so Kevin Conroy will always be my Batman. (Except when it's Adam West, because when I was small I was totally obsessed with that movie. Hey, I'll give Diedrich Bader from B:TBATB high marks too, and Bruce Greenwood in Young Justice gives good Bat-voice.) Although, I'm also quite partial to the kid from Holy Musical B@man. :) Which EVERYONE should see, just FYI.
