Perhaps Breitbart can follow this up by complaining about how Superman is an illegal immigrant and is taking valuable superhero jobs from hard working American citizens?

This is one of my pet peeves, but indicative of the kind of empty symbolism guys like Breitbart find important. To them, Cap means so much that just isn't him and knowing who he actually is is clearly of no real importance.

OK, I was initially hesistant about the Cap film but then I read this part:

"He wants a character that’s more complicated than a flag and a movie that entertains without borders. "Yeah and it’s also the idea that this is not about America so much as it is about the spirit of doing the right thing,"

And thought: SOLD!!!

As someone who is not an American but for whom Cap does mean a lot to, it was important that they emphasize Cap's Spirit and ideals rather than 'AMERICA'S AWESOME!!'. Cap is just one of those characters that goes beyond the borders of comics and countries, to me his message and whose message is a universal one that's not just limited to one place. So I'm happy that they are taking this route and I will gladly sit through Cris Evans if they manage to tell a good story out of it.

I would comment on Conservative asshatery but I'm still tearing up over Cap's speeches. I would say, "This is what we need now more than ever", but the truth is we've always needed it and we always will.

If they knew more about the character, they'd probably realize Cap punching out Hitler probably had as much to do with the background of his creators as any "American exceptionalism".
