So, I think Kate Kane is awesome, and I'm generally a fan of Greg Rucka. I'm reading almost no DC right now, but I'm basically up on canon. What are the odds of being able to follow the Greg Rucka run with Kate as lead in Detective Comics without having to read umpty-billion other comics to get the story? How tight is the relationship between the ( Read more... )

I think it'll be alright. I've actually never had too much a problem keeping up with DC events only reading the titles I normally read(and even if I did the internet in general makes it pretty easy to keep up).

Thanks! I'm cranky at Marvel's giant crossovers right now, which I think makes me a bit more sensitive about having to chase down other titles just to keep up with the one I want to read.

How? She hasn't done anything.

Regardless, who knows? It's probably going to try to be open to new readers, otherwise, what's the point? The question is, how open, and whether it succeeds.

She looks cool, she wears flats, she dated Montoya. That's not enough to start with?

Wearing flats is a recent thing, she dumped Montoya long ago (and don't even get me started on how from out of nowhere Lesbian Montoya originally was).

Well, since I'm a lesbian who is in a long-term relationship with a formerly straight girl, I can deal with "oop! sudden lesbian!" without blinking an eye.

I know the flats is a recent thing, that's why I want to read the recent comics.

Considering how many characters are on the covers of Battle for the Cowl, I doubt most of them will get much panel-time beyond Dick, Tim and Jason.

So I think you'll likely be able to read Detective Comics without being confused or missing vital info pertaining to that storyline.

Thank you! It does look very crowded, hence my concerns about just reading one title.

My understanding is the the Detective Batwoman story was first intended to be a Batwoman mini-series, so I would assume it's selfcontained.

The first four issues will be about defining who she is. It's been in the works for the past 2 years, so I'd doubt you'd need to read anything else. The three following will be her origin.
