Dec 27, 2007 18:41

Hey guys, guess what? In a little over twelve hours I'll be boarding a bus bound for Victoria, BC, where I will meet zabira and we will spend three fun-filled days sightseeing, gossipping, reading the dSSS stories and watching 6degrees stuff. It's going to be a very fun fangirl weekend, and I plan to pretend that I've done all my prep stuff for the new ( Read more... )

Thank you! We're going to have a great time, and the only thing better? Hanging out in SEATTLE! You're planning to come, right? Now that you're all healed up?

What's this about Seattle? It's only a 2hr flight for me so I'd be game if it meant meeting you. When/what is it?

Dude, for serious? You haven't heard about bitchinparty? brynnmck is holding a dS/6degrees/multifannish con in Seattle from March 28-30th. It's going to be so awesome! We're staying in a lovely hotel and there will be discussion panels and fun games and much drinking and squee. Check out the LJ group for more specific details, but I hope hope hope you'd be able to come. I'm dying to meet you!

Nooooo, don't encourage me, I've got way too many WiP as it is. That was meant as a, "Hmmm, would someone like to write this?" suggestion. Like, say, a certain smishy penguin author? You could do great things with that idea, and I bet you know a thing or two about radio production. Hmmmm?

Honestly, it does appeal to me. And just the other day I was looking at pics of... who was it, Inuvik Phil?... someone with a blog who is now working for CBC radio in the far North. I know nothing of radio production, though I have friends who are on local radio every week.

But at the moment I'm wrestling with moustaches. I wrote the first 500 words this morning whilst abrinsky was having a shave & shower, and I'm just thinking about going back to work on it.

Oooh, that blog sounds interesting! zabira just spent an hour outlining the radio story so it looks like it'll happen (and, if I'm lucky it'll happen in less than 10,000 words) and I'm glad you've got your moustaches to keep you suitably entertained. I am excited for facial hair!

It is! *is smished*

How are you? I hear you have a fangirl (or rather, one has you)? Fangirls are awesome (particularly ones called lipstickcat whose house I'm at, about to start watching things Canadian and starring CKR, and definitely reading advent porn. Yay!)

Just stumbled upon this whilist back-tracking through tabs and just wanted to say that I LOVE this AU already. As an added bonus and if it's still a post-COTW story, I am totally willing to lend my expertise in the radio field to you- My previous job was working at a small AM radio station in Vermont and I still remember how things work. So if you need any help with how things are decided or how they work or about the processes of doing a newscast or ANYTHING, give me a shout and I'll be more than glad to answer any questions. :)

Mickster, that is an AWESOME offer, and I will totally take you up on it! Yay! \o/ \o/ The outline Z and I came up with was really, really good, and I think it would make for a terrific story. But I don't know squat about radio production, except that a microphne is possibly involved. And maybe a reel-to-reel tape deck? *headdesk* So your offer is wonderful, and I will shamelessly exploit you and build small statues in your honour. *hugs* I'll shoot you an email soon!

Small statues? For Me??? Aww, that is so cool. *grin*

And yes, there are mics, but reel-to-reels?? *shakes head sadly* You DO need my help. Reel-to-reels AND tape decks( they are actually 2 different things)are rarely, if ever, used these days. Everyone is using digital these days and most stations use SS32 as their operating/automation systems and Adobe Audition as their editing and production software.

Both require computer skills to use, especially Adobe, and I'm not sure how much you're planning on having Ray create ads/promos/bummpers/etc, but it is easy to use, once you learn it. As for SS32, in the on-air booth, it's a touch screen, so moving things around on it and learning it is easy. It's the multi-tasking required on being LIVE, ON-AIR that is the hardest part.

Soooo.... *deep breath*... this just some basic info you might need to get started.

And yes, feel free to email at anytime :)
