First of all, it may be interesting for you to know that I have divided my list of French Revolution fics in two categories: the Old Generation (2006-2007) and the New Generation (2008...). (I'm going to put the date of their first posting.) There are many of the Old Generation fics that annoy me for characterisation or plot issues. I'm trying to improve this in the New Generation, which has the following two characteristics:
Deeper analysis of the historico-political context and robespierriste ideals. I'm trying very hard to make a vulgarisation of robespierrisme, it seems. I don't know yet if those are my interpretations going in their mouths, or if it's their ideals I assimilated too well in my brain. It may not be perfect, but I'm trying to make the whole thing more grounded in the historical and political, overall.
Evolution of Robespierre and Saint-Just's relationship and characterisation. I am a bit tired of Saint-Just-feeling-naughty-and-wanting-a-break-from-political-work-with-sex as I've written hundred of times already. All right, so, this characterisation takes long to disappear, and it will make a come-back once or twice still.
On this subject, you need to know that I had a severe fic-writing breakdown, which went from "Saint-Just's Bottoming Issues" as I have called them (Summer 2007) to Summer 2008. In this year, I had written only one fic To Be a Part of You, which is sort of between the two generations, though I put it in the New one. (I'm going to wait before posting it, before it's a three-part fic and the last part isn't written yet.)
This seemed to have been enough time anyway for Saint-Just's beloved self-confidence to finally make a come-back. Apart from that, many of the fics of the New Generation have faded out sex scenes or no sex scenes at all. It's good for their relationship. And I taught myself how to enjoy writing very erotic kisses instead.
