I love the idea that fans are taking this into their own hands. A new platform becoming a reality though might take a few years. Pillowfort is still working very slowly towards full usership, even though I quite like them. Dreamwidth is great... but not enough people are there.

Sorry for the late reply; my laptop was in the shop and I couldn't remember my LJ password! I agree it will take a bit for a new platform to emerge.
