so Tess, at least, thinks she is dying unredeemed, to protect Clark. *Weeps inconsolably*
Omg, I hadn't really thought of it this way. *crying AGAIN!*
I screamed when they killed Tess. It was one of my biggest concerns about this episode, and it actually happened. But, I find that I'm actually okay with it now that the shock has worn off. Even though Tess may have thought she was unredeemed, I still think she died a hero - but on her own terms.
I'm getting ready to watch it again, only this time alone. I expect more tears.
I may be the only one with this much of a tragic reading of Tess's death--all the other reviews see it as a heroic death. I have to rewatch, too, to see if maybe I was interpreting that scene wrong, but I know it's going to make me cry all over again so I've been putting it off.
How was the party? I really wish I could have been there. (If the finale had been one week earlier or later, I would have flown out, but it's the one week out of maybe four in the entire year I really can't miss work, dammit).
Yes, I agree--the vows really captured each of their voices very well.
The thing about the dithering over the wedding was that if they had to go that way, I wish they had done it in an earlier episode. It just seemed like time-wasting in this one--time they could have spent on actually making the Darkseid plot dramatic, or giving us more details on what the other characters were doing in 7 years, or something like that.
I've read a couple reviews --destina's was one of them-- that point out that they harped a lot on Clark not severing his ties to the past that made him who he was as a contrast to Lex, man without a past. The problem for me is that takes away from a lot of Clark's character development this season.
You know, I kind of feel like they were saving up all the awesome they had for the finale, and even then it wasn't quite enough for the whole episode. For most of it, but not all of it.
Clark's real superpower actually was DEMONSTRATED to be believing in people
YES! \o/ Loved this so much. Even with Lex, you could tell that some part of him still really wanted Clark to believe in him. Loved how his belief pulled the darkness out of Ollie, and all those people at the end who were freed of Darkseid because they believed in him? Awesome.
I thought it was completely amazing that Tess, all on her own, broke free of the restraints and killed Lionel. Way to be kickass, Tess.I was seal-clapping in joy when Tess broke free, I swear. That was so awesome, and I'm so glad the writers allowed that for her; no one had to come save her. She saved herself. Which was important, considering what came later. *sigh* I loved that Tess died trying to protect Clark, but agh. I just don't know, either about Lex killing her or about her taking away his

Agreed about all the hesitation leading up to the wedding being total bullcrap. I couldn't even celebrate Martha's return because she was spouting so much OOC nonsense!
As much as I loved everything about the wedding (after the WTF parts were over) and Clark becoming Superman, I have to give special props to the scene between Lex and Tess, because it broke my heart. I think Beeman wrote in his blog that he discussed the scene with the actors, and it was meant to play out as though Tess was going in there fully prepared to never come back out, so your tragic reading of her death is spot on. As for her taking away Lex's memories, it took me a while to remember why that was even necessary. I think the show could've done without it, to be honest, because they've already deviated from "canon" by having Lois know Clark's secret, but I guess they wanted to tie up all loose ends and have it be as non-problematic as possible.
I agree with you--there was NO actual reason to make the show match up with comics canon in the end, except to just underscore the whole Luthor tragedy, so I go back and forth on Lex's memories.
I thought the comic was a bespoke one Chloe made for her son, why not when you have the resources she and Oliver have? They just better make sure no one else sees it, lol.
