del.icio.usness, poll, and 500th post

Apr 16, 2008 20:30

So a week ago Monday was my 4th LJversary, and I had this big plan to make it coincide with my 500th post, but then I felt like I should say something deep and significant in my 500th post, and the pressure was too much, and work got crazy, so I never posted. And in the meantime I had a lot of little silly posts I wanted to make, but once again I ( Read more... )

I have one category that I have to explain to anyone who sees it. It's called "guano," and it's for examples of batshit insanity. 8-)

I use yahoo!bookmarks a lot. I currently have 498 pages marked. I also download a copy of all of these pages to yahoo!'s cache, just in case.

I use what I guess is an old version. It uses a directory tree structure rather than tags. I like being able to have subdivisions within my divisions, and I've never been able to figure out how to do that neatly with tags.

LOL at that category!

I've never used yahoo bookmarks, but the tree function sounds very handy. Though now that I'm semi-committed to delicious I doubt I'll move, if only because of the inertia factor at the idea of transferring bookmarks.

I can see why having your own website that you're in control of is superior to having your memories somewhere they could vanish. But can you sort by tags? That's one of my favorite delicious features.

I signed up with delicious out of boredom a few weeks ago but there was really no point. I spent one Friday evening watching music videos on youtube and drunkenly saved all the links (*eyeroll*) and I saved a couple of other sites that I like but I can't actually imagine myself using it much. I've practically completely given up reading fic and that seems to be the main reason people in fandom use it, so. I guess people that find me will work out pretty quickly that I like commercial hip hop and r&b and otherwise will be completely in the dark about my kinks. WIN!

I saw that other post where you said you'd given up reading fic, and *boggles boggles boggles* I hear the words coming out of your mouth keyboard, but the meaning does not compute.

Of course, your standards were always a lot higher than mine. And I don't think you reread stuff as much as me? That, more than anything, has made me a little compulsive about tagging stuff--so I don't have to be asking the daft questions on a storyfinders community when I absolutely MUST read that story about the time Homer Simpson turned into a mutant nuclear goldfish and had an affair with Mr. Burns koi, or whatever. No, that is not a real story. I earnestly hope, anyway Of course, I would actually find your youtube music links helpful, because --let's say, theoretically--I was on a job site where LJ was blocked but I had a lot of time to kill and wanted to watch music on youtube, I could go check that out. Since delicious is not usually a blocked site--some people actually use it for work ( ... )

Hello hello! *waves*

You know this post just makes me feel deeply inferior for having no real system at all. I just kind of ... drift around. It's very poor of me and I have sometimes contemplated using something like delicious or even just improving my memories section on LJ but the set-up work daunts me so much and I end up vidding instead... ;)

Your description of delicious makes me really nervous though! I don't think I'd like being that exposed either.

Currently I don't think I have any embarrassing tags or memories and what I do have is completely public. But I also don't think I've been to delicious for months... weird, huh?

Helloooooo! It's been so looong! :D

It hit your embarrassment squick?! Wow, really? Too emotional?

I personally think your meager online time is much better spent vidding than organizing. *Nod nod nod*
*giggles* Thanks hon! I appreciate the encouragement. And you're spot on re. my fannish habits. I am organised for sv_ledger... and that's about it. I guess that's why I love good reccers so much. ;) Thank GOD for them doing the work for me! ;)

I'm not sure if that will automatically screen the whole thread or not--hopefully not.

I am STILL so sorry that I made you feel embarrassed about what you tagged. I didn't mean to! Honestly ( ... )

Hee! I am not embarassed about you knowing things I tagged--it just made me realize "OMG, other people know what I am bookmarking" in a way I hadn't thought about before.

I keep thinking I'm going to use the subscription feature and still haven't gotten around to it. And I don't want to give the impression that I'm bopping around to other people's tags all the time going "eww"--I am bopping around to other people's sites looking for stories, and so I'm looking through their tags to find stuff I might like. It's just occasionally I've been surprised!

I never actually used to look at my network page until someone I completely don't know added me, and I went to look at them, and they were uploading tons of the kind of stories I like pretty much every day, so then I started actually looking at the network page again. (And getting sucked into SGA stories, damn you! Ok, cesperanza, I'd read every phone book she ever wrote, but still!!)
