I was just wondering ...

I always learned that snuck is not a word because sneaked is the proper past tense of the verb to sneak. But where the heck does snuck come from? Streak and creak have regular endings, and the past tense of speak is spoke ... isn't it mysterious that sneak-snoke sounds so obviously wrong yet sneak-snuck makes sense?
