I know what you mean about not knowing what area you'll end up working in. I just started work with our Chaplain / Employee Assistance team where I work, and they asked what area I want to work in - even with it narrowed down to "Death and Bereavement" the possibilities (trance? Green cemetary? materials to support caregivers?) are so wide I can't quite narrow it down.
Is Cherryhill online, or do you go to the classes? I've heard good things about their program -
School is at cherryhillseminary.org -- take a look!
Classes are on-line, residence intensive weeks are offered a couple of times a year (and attending a certain number is mandatory for matriculated students before graduation can occur).
Their on-line technology seems to work decently well, after a bit of a learning curve -- they're using something called Moodle as a framework, which helps students keep track of assignments, forums (timeless posting in threads of conversation) and live-chat ('class meets 8:30-10 pm Tuesdays'). Does a nice job of letting you know about new posts since you logged on, and stuff like that.
Professors include such folks as Judy Harrow and Macha NightMare, just to drop a couple of names (grin).
You can take courses for 'personal enrichment' or seeking credentials in Public Ministry or Pastoral Counseling. They're not accredited for granting degrees yet, but they're making a start.
That's great - and you can tell me more! Wow, Macha NightMare - one of the people I look up to most - that would be fabulous. So I can't get clergy credentials through them? I couldn't tell if that was what you meant by "granting degrees" -
I did low-residency for my MFA at Warren Wilson, and it was a really good way to go. Lots of intense interaction when I was there, and then we all went home in time to miss each other, instead of starting to get on each other's nerves. Kept it feeling idyllic ...

Is that more than you wanted to know?

Oooooooh, I'm so excited for you. You will be such a good chaplain!
Like you, it seems that I have become a perennial student.
Good luck,
Swansister
