What a beautiful place

Can it be Indian summer before the Labour Day weekend?  If so, we've got it.  It's not supposed to be 29 degrees Celsius in Vancouver, ever, and really not in September.

Maybe it's my fault.  Maybe I brought it back from the mountains, where it is also not supposed to be 90 degrees Fahrenheit (not an easy word to spell).  And yet it was, for 11 days ( Read more... )

life, holidays

That sounds wonderful. I notice there were no buses on your trip. *grin*

A distinct lack of buses, oh yes. When I was trying to decide what to do on my holidays, and I was pretty sure I'd have to go alone, my dad suggested a tour someplace. "A tour?" I said, disbelieving, because organized tours are anathema in our family (my dad and I are far too independent for that sort of thing, generally speaking). And he said, "Yeah, a bus tour someplace." And I reeled in horror, as you can well imagine.

it would be like a vacation in HELL for you. And if there were squirrels riding the bus, that would make it even better.

What a trip!!

What are your favourite picture subjects? I came back from Rome with close to that many shots -and my Dad freaked out because they were mostly rocks... with Latin on them (which I'm quite sure you didn't find any of in the wilderness of Montana and Alberta)

an infinite number of ground squirrels (and if one more Midwestern tourist calls them "prairie dogs", I will shoot them myself (the tourists, I mean)) *makes note of this somewhere - ground squirrels not prairie dogs*

It doesn't get up to 29?!! And let me guess you don't get humidity either!!?

Well, it does get up to 29, but not that often, and anything above about 23, and we get very whiny. And we get some humidity--it's not as dry as Alberta, but it's not like Ontario, either. Lots of times, it's 20 and humid, but the humidex doesn't go that low (needs a higher base temperature), but we whine anyways.

And sure, they're prairie dogs... in the prairies!

Favourite picture subjects... Mountains with snow (not much left in late August). Water of any sort (especially waterfalls). Flowers, close up, which I've inherited from my dad. Um, outhouses, also a family thing (seriously, we've got more toilet photos than anybody else). And animals. I think that's it. I think water, specifically, is my favourite, but mountains are a close second--how do you take a picture of something flat?! I tried, in eastern Washington, and mostly took photos of lakes. Which, um, are flat, I guess!
